You might have a smaller pool to compete against next year plus you'll be better qualified in terms of work experience. Anyway these are just my comments.
On the other hand you don't really lose anything significant by applying. It might be a good exercise (plus a little applciation fees), so you could give it a shot now too.
Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The thing is I need to do MBA by this year itself due to some personal obligations. I am planning to mail to the Admission council and then proceed based on their reply.

I heard from my friend (ex-aluminus) that in his batch there were four other Indians at Vlerick.

I've pretty much made up my mind.

Re: Vlerick Leuven Gent Management 2007 Intakes - 13-11-2008, 09:13 PM

Actually its a good offer... kinda light on pockets (atleast not as heavy as others) and if it does give good career placements (which, somehow, i'm still not sure about) its is a superb decision.

One question : It is a general management progam and the class average age is 31.. so.. the kind of job offers or the companies that come to recruit would look for roles catering to general management. An engineer, (with technical background) could loose out here. I mean, at least for engineers in the program, if technology firms... like siemes or bosch etc... come to recruit, it would be great. What say?

Hi Samir,

I think the part about job offers has been covered earlier on in this thread. One of the previous pages! All the silicon valley of Europe stuff/info! The job market in general is down right now but there is no way of predicting what it would be like two years from now. I'm sure most of us are gambling on it turning upward so that we can ride the wave as we complete our courses.

I expect the class to be very diverse agewise and there might be a lot of folks with good experience and awesome war stories. I've heard of 40+ year olds who join to make drastic changes in their job profiles and actually do so. However, final job offers will also thus depend on each person's age and experience before joining the programme.
Vlerick is famous for it's focus on entrepreneuship and general management. I'd say be brave and if a job doesn't come after you make your own! I'd personally be happy to meet my future partners in business out there.

People keep mentioning return on investment, and the fact that Vlerick is light on one's pockets. The latter is true, the former makes sense when you DO get a job after you're done studying. It usually takes about 3 to 4 months to actually land a good offer. In fact if you look at most b-school vital-stat sheets they measure the placement after 3 to 4 months after the course is completed.I believe it does significantly help if you know French, or if you're willing to relocate to places outside Europe. Some of the jobs are with international firms who are setting up shop in Asia / emerging markets. The rest of the jobs involve some local-awareness usually including knowing French or Dutch or German. Europe is beginning to open up to knowledge workers, but not yet as much as USA has. Then again why not lead the way and enter the field before everyone else does?
Vlerick's website has a list of companies that recuit (campus involvement), and I was just looking through Facebook and Orkut's Vlerick Alumni groups to see where some of the ex-Vlerickers are now. Quite a few are in consultancy firms, some of them are in companies like P&G, Nestle etc. Some seem to be in technology startups in Europe. From the diversity perspective engineers might have an advantage but then again it's up to you to make your own rules. You could probably approach Siemens or Bosch on your own too during the course.

I can't predict the future or the job scene in 2010. But with the Vlerick fees, even taking up a job posting in Asia or in a "high-growth-economy" might give one enough opportunity for payback. Personally I'm in for the experience.

Regards,

Hello MeetuGupta,

Nice to hear about your admit, congrats.

I'll have about 6 years in engineering consultancy experience by the time I join in 2009.

Sure we can all coordinate. I guess you're the 4th person (including me) who is Indian and has got an admit. I'm not yet sure how many others have confirmed / finalized their decisions.

Regards,
RP
