Just to summarize what has been discussed so far.

I suggested to gather a database of the profiles of all admitted students. We decided it doesn't add any value to the community coz each profile is unique. But just for reference, i'd request all admitted students to add a link in their signature to their "profile posts".

Susie has suggested a database of interview experiences. Neo should come out with the logistics behind setting this up. I've seen two models - clearadmit and accepted, and they're both different. I dont think PG has anything similar to what both these sites do. So i'll let the HQ decide on how this can be done. But i believe this will be a helpful database that'd serve the future members.

GMAT Prep
To be honest, i never used PG for GMAT prep for the simple reason that there were not enough people and enough discussions happening which could help me for GMAT ( i am talking abt Jun 2006). I used scoretop extensively and it was really good.
I have to admit that things have improved on PG but then it still has a long way to go for GMAT prep.
There ain't enough people preparing for GMAT on PG. At any given point, you will not find more than 10-15 members on GMAT thread. What PG can do is have some GMAT tutors who will solve queries (problem solving, SC etc). It would encourage more people to join PG for GMAT prep. Scoretop has a seperate link for 1000 SC questions. It provides the detailed discussions that happened while solving a problem and it was really insightful. I would recommend PG to have these different sections for GMAT prep:
1. GMAT prep material - It should contain 1000 SCs, RCs, CRs, free test software, complied VA/QA notes by people and everything else that is freeware/shareware. The current PG thread for GMAT prep is not good enough.
2. GMAT query center:- This section would cater to all the queries people have related to GMAT prep.(This is already a thread on PG)
3. GMAT problems discussions: This according to me is the most imp. part. This section could be divided into subsections for PS, SC, CR etc. This is where people would post their problem related queries and have discussions. This is where GMAT tutors can pitch in.
4. GMAT experiences: This would contain experiences of all the GMAT takers.

Application process:
I believe the current thread on gyans is a great initiative. Still, things can be improved.
PG can help by having a section which will have pointers to the latest rankings by several magazines (FT, businessweek, economist, USNews etc).
Then, we can have a seperate section which will contain all admission director interviews.
The most helpful initiative would be having a seperate section for insights into colleges provided by PGites already into b-schools. I believe we could find a PGite in every top b-school. This section would contain threads for every b-school. It would serve 2 purposes - the alumni PGite can share his/her experiences about the school and also solve queries for other puys applying to that school.

Apart from this, I believe PG is already doing a good job on the applicaton process front.

I hope this helps.

Quite a long list

Reg this particular point in the quotes - i was hoping that the "admits of 2009" thread would evolve into something similar to what u've mentioned. If it wasn't obvious, well - this is what i had in mind

I'd appreciate pointers to any drawbacks/loopholes notices or any suggestions/recommendations that would help me (us) achieve this thru the thread.

The one obvious problem i foresee is maintaining the thread after i join school. Let's see.

Re: Harvard(2007) Interviews And More - 18-01-2007, 08:58 PM

alright guys, the idea of PG is to help everyone. I think we can make a advisory group of people who get in every year for the different schools with different profiles. It can be sticky and then any specific questions can be asked directly to the people. Though everyone can contribute but over time i have realized that i may not be the right person to help someone from the IT background who wants to do a MBA. However i can help someone from investment banking + non-profit background. The point i am making is a lot oif people face difficulties in selling themselves to certain schools, so people who have gone through the same process can help specifically. Making a database for gmat and toefl will not help. Someone who has gone through the process will clear out a lot of doubts. My case, it took me a while to figure out why MBA -- For non-profit I could have done masters in social work, MPP and MPA from Kennedy School of Govt would have helped but, why MBA.

some names that come to my mind ---there are of lot of people with amazing infor .. I am keeping the post short so not adding any names…

Iday/Inblue- Can help IT guys specifically for a number of schools
PG/Cryonerve- Can help entrepreneurs specifically for a number of schools
Sam 10 – can help guys in middle management who have done their MBAs
I can help people who are from investment banking + non profit + social entrepreneurship

More exact the questions to the right people will benefit more.

rock on
