GMAT Prep
To be honest, i never used
PG for GMAT prep for the simple reason that there were not enough people and enough discussions happening which could help me for GMAT ( i am talking abt Jun 2006). I used scoretop extensively and it was really good.
I have to admit that things have improved on
PG but then it still has a long way to go for GMAT prep.
There ain't enough people preparing for GMAT on
PG. At any given point, you will not find more than 10-15 members on GMAT thread. What
PG can do is have some GMAT tutors who will solve queries (problem solving, SC etc). It would encourage more people to join
PG for GMAT prep. Scoretop has a seperate link for 1000 SC questions. It provides the detailed discussions that happened while solving a problem and it was really insightful. I would recommend
PG to have these different sections for GMAT prep:
1. GMAT prep material - It should contain 1000 SCs, RCs, CRs, free test software, complied VA/QA notes by people and everything else that is freeware/shareware. The current
PG thread for GMAT prep is not good enough.
2. GMAT query center:- This section would cater to all the queries people have related to GMAT prep.(This is already a thread on
PG)
3.
GMAT problems discussions: This according to me is the most imp. part. This section could be divided into subsections for PS, SC, CR etc. This is where people would post their problem related queries and have discussions. This is where GMAT tutors can pitch in.
4. GMAT experiences: This would contain experiences of all the GMAT takers.
Application process:
I believe the current thread on gyans is a great initiative. Still, things can be improved.
PG can help by having a section which will have pointers to the latest rankings by several magazines (FT, businessweek, economist, USNews etc).
Then, we can have a seperate section which will contain all admission director interviews.
The most helpful initiative would be having a seperate section for insights into colleges provided by PGites already into b-schools. I believe we could find a PGite in every top b-school. This section would contain threads for every b-school. It would serve 2 purposes - the alumni PGite can share his/her experiences about the school and also solve queries for other
puys applying to that school.
Apart from this, I believe
PG is already doing a good job on the applicaton process front.
I hope this helps.
