yep exactly what i told u in the other thread of yrs. GMAT is only one factor. its yr complete package.

Like i said, i consider myself a success story.

only had a 640 on GMAT... but my work-ex, acads and extra curriculars got me an admit from Rotman!!
so there is always hope. but that said, i think a good GMAT relly helps in highlighting yr application from the pool.

Why do you want an MBA?
For a trophy wife? If so, boost that score and apply to some lower ranked US universities to get a free ride.
For career switch/growth? If so, boost that score, understand what it's like to apply to top colleges, get a complete personality overhaul if necessary or pretend to have a great personality (I did the latter) and apply to top schools. You'll get a loan. Read 'thread of gyaans' for more info.

Either case, boost that score to at least > 650. True, there have been success storied but present your best self. Schools usually look at teh higher score.

Either case, finance no problem.

Susie, where were you when I needed advice! All I had to do was apply low.. but I misled into believing that a higher GMAT score would mean a better standing in the community and that people would respect me. But Alas, I realize the follies of my way. I should have stuck to my first GMAT score of a 610 or so .. and I might have pleasantly gotten lucky and ..err.. erm might even be married

how does a career switch benefit from GMAT? i think the more traditional the profile the higher the score required. A normal corporate job will demand a high score especially if one is from consulting and investment banking.

Hey Yogi.. don't look into the details of my post... just the gist.. i.e. whether he wants to do an MBA for the heck of it or for his career, he'll need to take the GMAT again IFFF he's got financial constraints.

GMAT definitely a criteria when the ad-comm decide where to cherry red $$ on the admit letters - Scholarships !

GMAT w r t to admission is so very subjective.
The GMAT alone never matters, nor does the profile. Its YOU that matters and that YOU is made of a lot of things - essays, the most of it . How you present yourself ! As Susie said it about being that 'candidate' or about skilfully 'pretending to be that candidate'.

Now that's as far as you want to get in and get money to study !
Some recruiters too are interested in the GMAT as PY said. ( IB and Management Consulting ).

i agree its about you. GMAT is very trciky a lot depends on the school. Take my example, Oxford has taken me with 600 beacus eof my focus on soical entrepreneurship and they are very keen on promoting it through the skoll centre so i am good match for them. Also, i dony why this is true but people in the se and non-profit scpace may score less neacuse of the heavy travel so that is also factored in the application. An eminent faculty told me about this. A low score with consulting anf IB background means you are in troiuble beacuse virtually evryone scores very heavily in GMAT from that background. Essays is the key for a good application. I really dont know how GMAT also helps for the scholarships .. sholarships that are very caeer focussed will not ask for GMAT. Take Skoll for example, i believe it does not put much focus on GMAT and sees what you have done and what will you do from the grants given to you.
