Hello apsb84.

Congrats for both the admits. Surely you have got a tough choice to make since the schol is higher in BC and Smith offers a gud name.

As for MBA finance Smith is highly reputed and should be a promising avenue for job placements. However, I would recommend you to talk with current students at both schools and get first hand info.

Welcome to this forum and hope to see you around. ATB!!!

Cheers,

Nilesh.

Simon nilesh .. Simon is the option for apsb84 .

@apsb84 - Congrats on those admits man! A very confusing situation i say . If i were you I'd choose BC for quality education at the price of an Indian M.B.A ( with the scholarship award that u have got!). But yes.. as anjapower said if you're dream was a bulge bracket firm then BC wont give u the ideal start. That said I am not sure if Simon would give u that ideal platform either. So u need to talk to as many seniors.. and Indians there to figure out whether Simon will give u a reasonable shot at these firms for the cost u will pay in the form of tuition. BC does give u quality education and good brand name in Boston. Also, an alumni network that is probably stronger than Simon's. The only piece of advice I have for you is talk to as many students from BC and Simon and make your decision with all the facts that you gather.

P.S. Keep us posted on where you intend to go. Would be nice to have you join us here .

Thanks a lot nileshdeo and wot_me_worry...

I have infact spoken to 3 students in boston college...and a current student and alumni from simon rochester...each of them supporting their own colleges..

that has confused me even further...

both of them have their pros and cons...

boston college with the location and resources..
simon with the strong finance background and New York career fairs..

And as regards to fees simon is much cheaper than boston college..but thats not my decision criteria..
with placements..with current recession both of them are facing problems..(thts wht the current students said..)

But if you have any more contacts in simon or in boston college I would really like to have them..I guess talking to current students is the only option left rite now..

Regards,
apsb84

Hey apsb84,

I will PM you the contact details of my friend who I am sure would be able to help you.

However, I would request you and all the BC applicants to share the inputs from the current students. For example, me and wot_me_worry have been interacting with students there and can provide some promising insights.

Note: However, this info will be on the basis of perception of the two parties involved.

Hope everyone agrees on this.

Cheers,

Nilesh.

Simon is cheaper? The tuition for two years at BC sums up to 63K (USD 1126 per credit) and I think that is cheaper than Simon's.

Anyway it is a tough decision dude.. talk to as many people you can find. students with a similar background aspiring to shift into the fin domain. They should be able to give you a clear picture.

I know the acceptance letter stated 63k for 2 years, but their website said that just tuition is 36k/yr. I will imagine it to go up in the 2 years we are there.

I'd put it at 75k for the 2 years to be safe.

When are you guys going to come over to the US to secure housing, etc?

Oh yeah.. I'd thought so too.
BC has a per credit fee system and a total of 56 credits to be completed for graduation. The 36K fee is for the first yr when u will be completing 32 of the 56 credits. So 1st yr is more expensive.

I am planning to reach Boston by the 24th of july.
