Hi PGs,
I was wondering if I can get some inputs from you guys:-
US MBA is not just about a good GMAT score, but also SOP/Profile etc matters!!
Now,coming to the Job profile,I wanted to know:-
1.If there is anything like preference given among IT Professionals who are from consulting companies over Product Companies ?
If yes,Why?
(In case of "yes",one reason i see is international exposure. What if the product company guy too has that international exposure(say in my case)?)
2.What one needs to show if he/she is from product company on his/her strengths?<like consulting ppl can bank upon client interaction>
Thanks.

The story got as controversial as it can get. In the Chicago GSB student-to-student forum, a current student recommended to others:
As long as you hit on all of those points, you can tell your story any way you want to. Within reason of course, i.e. I wouldn't recommend straying from the traditional essay format into something like an interpretive collage or painting.
Just make sure it's coherent, highlights your experiences, answers the questions, and engages the reader. Easier said than done, I know
Then I replied back with following:
Dear XXX,
As you have recommended not writing this essay in terms of an interpretive collage or painting, I guess you must have seen some essays that have taken this or any similar kind of creative freedom.
As these are very subjective things and it is very much possible that one evaluator likes the style a lot whereas another does not like the style at all, what happens in such situations?
Does it mean a straight reject?
Regards
XXX
Then, s/he replied back:
That comment wasn't based on an actual application, it was just a joke. My point it, feel free to get creative, but do it within the framework of a traditional essay format.
Application readers are trained to remain objective when reading an application and to not let personal biases influence their decisions. There are no "automatic, straight reject" things that we look for.
Hope this helps!
In spite of all this……….

Hi
Congratulations! You are living my dream....
I'm also working in in the IT industry (Accenture) like innumerable others in India (work ex 18 months).
I'm in a quandary......I have been selected in a "Navratna" (read PSU) orgz for the post of management trainee. As I'm interested in pursuing an MBA from a top b-schools in the US....will making a move to this organization be a prudent move? Will having a managerial work ex help me in any way? In short, wht matters more- quality of work ex or the brand name of the organization one is working for?

Kushagraar22 - You have posted your query in the wrong thread. It should have been posted in Phoren b-school assistance thread.
IMO - the quality of work-ex definitely matters more than the brand name of the company. Many people leave big brands and join small startup companies because they are not satisfied with the type of work they are doing, because they feel they are not making a visible impact etc.
Also, if you are were to compare the amount of work-ex with quality of work-ex, here too quality of work-ex is more important.

It is very difficult for anyone to answer that question.......
At some level, the adcom wants to know how competitive the applicant is...If u have a good college name on your resume or have worked with a brand name company in the past, the adcom wd believe that u r competitive even if you are working with a small company now........at the end of the day, u have to convicne the adcom that u r better than/as good as than the loads of IITians working with big brand companies....u COULD have been and are good enough to do what they are doing , but chose not to follow the beaten track...
And dont do things just for getting an MBA...follow ur heart..MBA is not the end of life..........whatever u do, do it passionately..

Why MBA? -
21-06-2007, 07:56 PM
This is undoubtedly the most important question asked by AdCom of all B-schools. My 2 cents: Progress in Life: Why MBA?
