Gr8 work guys.. My 2 cents to it:

Most Indian student have a mentality of applying to B-skools which have a good enuf ROI (which is usually judged based on the average salary). This cud be a trifle misleading: The average salary is usually pushed high by the creamy layer of students in the program with 6+ years of experience. Talk to current students or ex-students of the skool to find out the real scenario. For example: students applying to ISB wud see an investment of 20 lakhs with an average salry of 12 lakh on exit. This is wtihout disclaimer that 4 students had 12 million salry figures. A student in the band of 1-3 years of workex sud compare more realistic figures which is not available on the website but from Ex students..

Also the scholarship that is provided to new joining students are ones who have a chance of not joining.. Ppl with lower chances of high paying jobs at the end of the sourse are usually the ones who pay the full fees..

If you can't convince yourself, then you can convince no one..

Nailed it simz !

While ROI is important, realistic ROI is most important.
With this keep in mind other things as location and specialization.

One other interesting thing to note is the average salary rise in 3 /4 years after graduation and the years to pay back the debt. FT and Forbes have some numerical analysis of these figures.

Is it a good idea to take reco from ur NGO supervisor......I have 2 professional recos and was thinking of taking the third from my client....but then I thought that client wd also be saying almost the same things that my current supervisor is saying......so, i thought that NGO may be a good idea........I have been associated there for the past 1.5 years...and he will give me a good reco....but the NGO is smallish.....how wd the adcom view it??

Problem is these information- Realistic ROI, job growth in 3/4 years , these data are very subjective and not available anywhere et al. The best way to judge and decide on what suits ur needs (and most importantly ur pocket) is by talking to students. Go to the respective websites and look for their alumini. Yale, for e.g., has an excellent discussion forum where u can ask the ex and current students any question u want.

Hey maverick.. U r posting in the wrong forum. This question sud be posted in the forum for the relevant skool for where u planning to apply..

To answer ur question- Getting a Reco from a NGO supervisor, "in my opinion", is an excellent idea.. Almost all B-skools around the world view NGO work very very favourably. Its better than getting a third reco from client. NO matter how small the NGO is. As long as the whole thing doesnt sound made up and u have ACTUALLY done some work i think u sud get a letter from the NGO. 1.5 years is not a small period.

If you have 2 professional recos the 3rd is good if non professional. However, out of the 2 professional recos is one a peer reco ?

Most schools need encourage a 3rd reco as peer reco.

Depends what school this is and what their instructions are. Simz was correct please cross post it in the schools thread too.

AFAIK Stanford and Wharton need a 3 reco from a peer
