Hey,

I understand we are talking about the alumni (ie. the pre application evaluative interviews).....

i interviewed with an alumni. It was quite chilled out....It was about 1 hr long....very chatty. They are just trying to gauge your fit into duke....

Questions were
Why duke...why MBA...and then we spoke more about him then me : - ))

If it is, well, then, research time, I guess. If it's not, then you already know the answer. What specific aspect of their program interests you? Just be honest.

To clear everybody's confusion, I have not applied to Duke yet, and I am not sure whether I will be applying. I have scheduled an "informational" interview and a tour and a class visit just to learn more abt. the univ. and the community environment. I am just doing my research through this forum.

Dear Jina,
Did you have your interview at India? Which city? Can you please throw some light on the alumni's profile?

I too applied in the R1 at Duke. I got an email from the admission office with the following content:

"I am still working to accommodate everyone's requests for alumni
interviews. I apologize for the delay. I will update you on or before
Monday, November 27. You will have until Monday, December 3 to complete
your interview.

Due to a limited number of alumni interviewers, I may not be able to
accommodate your request. If I am not, please do not worry or panic.
We do not require the interview for admission to Duke.
"

I haven't received any more mails from them. Since 27th of Nov'06 is the last date of the interview response, I am keeping my fingers crossed. Even though the mail from admission office specifies that interview is not always required for admissions, I have the feeling that no accepted student would be admitted without being interviewed. What's your thought on this matter?

Regards,
NeoZen

I would try to attempt your query.
As per the BW forum, they interview about 81% of the applicants BUT the 95% of the enrolled applicants are interviewed. I have a feeling that this is similar to Kelloggs. If you are interviewed then you have a pretty good chance to get through BUT if you are not then chances are weak.

Hi Neo,

I interviewed in Bombay. Where are you from? Alumni was abt 35 yrs old and batch of 99.He had a huge family business. He managed various companies. Very very impressive.

Neo, I dont think you should worry abt the interview too much. The fact that you opted for an interview(inspite of it not being mandatory)...shows your eagerness as well as seriousness. The onus is on them to schedule an interview. If they dont/cant do that, they cant penalise you. Plus like i said the interview i gave was barely an interview. He voluntarily told me that he was just trying to gauge my fit into Duke.
So chill out dude. K sera sera...

Best
Jina

Hi Jina,

Thanks for the words of encouragement!
It was nice to hear about your interview experience. I wish that all the interviewers conduct such cool interviews. I know that the onus is now on them to schedule the interview. But, the interview-vs-accepted statistics is what worries me.
However, I am a hard core optimist. So, won't give up till the end.

I am from Chennai. What about you?

Regards,
NeoZen

Having read this thread I have realized that almost everyone has had an alumni interview. I think I am the only person who had a telephonic interview. I just wanted to know if anyone had a telephonic interview as well .... and whether it makes any difference if ti was an alumni interview or a telephonic interview?

There is no difference brother.
Look at it this way, see you are unique in getting a telephonic interview.

I personally prefer face to face interviews may be because i lost many potential dates (gals) on telephone at high school and college.

Hi

I applied for R1 Fuqua. I was waiting for interviews but this is the mail I received yesterday.
Is there any one else who received a similar mail or am I the only one?
Any inferences from the mail..?
Thank you for your interest in the Fuqua School of Business. I am writing to inform you that due to a limited number of alumni interviewers in India, we are not able to accommodate your request for an alumni interview.
Please do not worry or panic. Duke does not require an interview for admission. In addition, the Admissions Committee is aware of this situation and it will not affect your application negatively.

Our inability to accommodate your interview request does not reflect your application status. Your application is still being read and considered for admission.
