Well i guess he is intelligent enough to employ some of the intelligent to do his work. But honestly i am asking this because my work experience is on the shorter side of 1.5 years and that too in father's business. Will no involvement in extra curriculars prove a nagative factor in my admissions?

Thanks Akshat,

In my case I am already in US so I already had an interview with Alisson Milanowsky in New York. The interview was pretty informal and cool. So I guess everything is done from my end. Now its all about waiting.

See my initial posts. There are many factors to admission in a top school. leadership potential, work ex, acads, GMAT scores, extra curricular. It is not a statistical decision making. How do you expect me to answer your question based on limited facts?

And honestly, there is no right pofile. Each of us here are very different. We have our own strengths and weakness. Are you aware of your own. What do you consider as your strenght is it real. How many people would have similar GMAT scores and acads as you have. What others will have that you do not. Analyze this.

Hi all,

I am back to help my friend and classmate Akshat in replying to your queries.

I have a quick general post to make. I know these are testing times for all of you who are applying and not long ago I was in the same situation. But this process has taught me a lot.

I have a clear observation which I can make from all the posts that we have been receiving till now - most candidates wish to check off a list of attributes which they think they need to have to get into GBS, Emory. What would help all of you in this process of deciding the best school for yourself is the fact that you need to understand how the school could help you get to where you want to be. All of us want something from the MBA, see whether the schools you are considering can get you in the direction of or closer to that goal. Remember, most likely there is an opportunity cost to this decision of going for an MBA, try to take an optimal decision.

To this end, I would encourage you to take this opportunity to ask questions which will help you to take the right decision while you are interacting with us.

cheers,

Gupta_v_kr

I agree with Akshat, there is no formula that if ingredients like work ex, acads, GMAT etc are in an x proportion, the candidate is made an offer. One thing that b schools look for is what you bring to the table. Why is your experience unique that you could add value to your classmates, because MBA education in this country is not as driven by the professors as it is by the students. Students seek out the kind of life changing transformation they want from these 1 or 2 years that they take off.

When you ask questions like "what are my chances of getting in with 1.5 years of work ex" you need to think on the above lines - what am I gaining out of this education if I have only 1.5 years of work ex? To give you my example, I worked for around 6 years before I came to school and 5 of those years were spent as a tax consultant in a global professional services firm. So I had some foundation of experience to build on. There are people in my class with less experience and others with more. All that matters is that they have solid conviction about why they want the MBA at this point and have a positive direction in which the MBA will take them. Think abt it.

Again, I would urge all of you to stop looking at this process like a formula driven exercise, but look at it like something customized you should seek to ensure that u maximize your return from it.

cheers,

Aditya

Hi hector81

thanks for your interest in goizueta.

the placement process in US is very different from the one in india.

first we do not have one placement officer but a whole CMC department comprising of 6 permamnent and 3 temporary staff. Their job is build relationship with the companies and aid students in their job search.

second, at goizueta second year students become a part of CMC. Many of them are nominated as Career Advisors. These are your personal advisors. They would guide you throughout your career selection process.

third, jobs in usa are allocated through networking. everything goes here by the word of mouth. first you network with your seniors, they would inturn introduce you to alums. from alums you would have access to others in the compan you are looking for. A person would recommend you to seniors and collegues only and only if, he/she finds you worthy of the position in the company.

You can see from above the importance of students in the career management process.

therefore you can realize the importance of students in career management process.

For the Student Clubs, please find enclosed the list of active clubs.

MBA Clubs & Organizations Net Center
Goizueta MBA student clubs & organizations are a staple of student life. We offer our students 18 clubs that we hope fit many unique needs and tastes. If we don't have a club for you, feel free to start a new one!

Black MBA Association
BizTech (Goizueta Business Technology Association)
Executive Women of Goizueta
Goizueta in the Community
Goizueta Consulting Association
Goizueta Finance Club
Goizueta Marketing Association
Goizueta Marketing Strategy Competition
Goizueta Partners
Goizueta Real Estate Group
Goizueta Business Association
Goizueta Investment Management
Graduate Women in Business
Healthcare Club
Hispanic Business Association
Honor Council
International Business Association
JD/MBA Society
Sports Media and Entertainment Association
Navigators
Net Impact
Operations Club
Student Advisory Groups (SAGs)
VCIC & Entreprenuership Club

All the clubs have a specific purpose. The functional clubs (Consulting, Finance, Marketing etc) are there to increase the awareness of the students in the respective functional areas. The diversity Clubs (Black MBA, IBA, WIB, Hispanic MBA) are there to promote diversity within the school community. Some clubs like Investment Management, Navigators etc are for people with a specific interest or hobby. While others like Net impact, Goizueta Gives etc are for promoting the community service by the school community. The list keeps on constantly changing each based on student interest. For ex. VCIC has been added this year as there were a group of students who felt that this sphere needed more representation.

Hope it helps you.

Regards
