SBT,
at the risk of sounding rude, i would say your chances are slim. with 2 years and 660 GMAT you would have to do a more than good job of your essays and get some really fine recos.
its been done before but its diff with your present state. i would say go for it only if you have the gut feeling and the passion to do it.
good acads and good ECs - subjective term. run them through somebody and see what he/she has to say.
NUS is a decent shot for you for sure, but off late people have been having trouble gettting a decent job over there so you might want to consider that factor.

Hey guys,
Well let me introduce myself first...I am Amar Inder Singh ,Did my bachelor's in Chemical engg. from Panjab University,Chandigarh with a GPA of 3.4.I am presently working with Jubilant Organosys Ltd-a chemcial manufacturing firm near delhi and would have an exp 0f 2 years by june08.m.will appear for GMAT in oct-07.
Guys i need ur help-coz i am unable to decide as to whether i should apply to canada or US.I have heard abt this lottery system for H1B visas which makes it quite diificult getting one. Also the waiting list for Green card is close to something like 7 years.whereas in canada one can get an immigiration within 2 years.
Also hw many univ. have placements bcoz i have heard that mostly one has to get the job on his own as very few univ. offer palcements nd most of indians get the job thru consultants which eat out on major part of your earnings.
Plzz advice

Inder,
You worry too much. H1B visas miraculously are always available for companies that want their people. if you are good enough, trust me, you will get one sponsor for that.
Waiting list for green cards? you want an MBA or a citizenship? even in the latter case, companies have to sponsor you for Green Cards and there again a lot of waiting lists disappear if the company has a standing.
every univ has a placement center. and yes things are not like in Indian univs where you are spoon fed jobs. everywhere else you have got to search for your own job. true many hundreds of companies come to campus for recruitment over there too but ultimately you have to search for your perfect job. no secondment on that.
forget consultants.
Cheers

Alas, i know not of the schools you mention. but they are not exactly top class. so again, during recession time (increasingly likely in US), you could be left out in the cold if you don't do your homework well.
and yes that 2 to 3 changes things a bit.
cheers

Re: 2008 MBA (international - U.S.) Aspirants Joint -

Friends,
I am currently on the verge of applying to various B-schools as I am sure many of you must be. I am however, at my current job, being asked to consider a few months long assignment outside India (in the UK to be precise). This being a crucial juncture of my application process, I am in a bit of a dilemma whether I should accept this offer or not. The assignment does not start right away, so I will still have a couple of months to prepare my application and submit them. However I may not be in the country after that period of submitting the application. So if there are any face-to-face interviews exclusively in Mumbai (where I stay), I may not be able to make it. However the only Indian B-School I am targetting is ISB. Other than that I am planning to apply to the US schools. Do the US B-schools conduct face-to-face interviews in Mumbai? If the interviews are telephonic anyways, then I guess it is inconsequential where I am based then. However I will be in the UK and so hopefully should be around to attend any face-to-face interviews if they are scheduled in London, Edinburgh, Belfast, etc.
Any general suggestions, comments will be gratefully received.
P.S: Have any of you PG gurus prepared for interviews? I reckon you must have. Towards that extent how important is it to be in the midst of fellow MBA aspirants (i.e: India) as against isolated at work abroad in a foreign country where I will most certainly be drenched in work and away from the heat of MBA related discussions, MBA aspiring fellow colleagues, etc.
Best Regards,
-TTB

hey buddy...
first of all thanks a ton for ur immediate response and i really appreciate that.It was a stress reliever to me.Well the reason i was worried abt the visa nd placements thing was because i am under tight financial terms as far as the expenses of dng MBA in US are concerned. i will be putting my family under lot of financial pressure to get an MBA nd i just wanted o be sure that i m on the safe side.
Also, can u plz throw some light as to if any kind of scholarships or any financial aids are available in US univ. Also doing an MBA from second tier schools is worth the time, effort nd money coz the fees for top 20 univ. is quite high which i don't think i can afford ..Also if u could guide me to some univ i should apply to assuming my GMAT score to be close to 650-690.
seeking ur advice
Thanks nd Regards

hey kunal
have a huge doubt here man , regarding recos
you mentioned that good recos are extremely important, but then most of the recos for the unis seem to be online?(the few that i saw), so considering it is a multiple choice kind of a thing , how would it be a major differentiating factor?
another doubt i have is regarding the average gmat scores that US news and Businessweek report , how representative are they ?
third and last doubt , when they ask about short term and long term goals, with like a mere 2 to 3 years of workex, wouldnt it be too ambitious to talk about , like say , start a company yadda yadda ...
do let me know , it would be mighty helpful
Cheers
