For the folks currently in IIMA PGPX, I have one concern on my profile and need your inputs on the same. Following is where I stand -
GMAT - 740
Education - PG in IT
Workex - would be 7 yrs and 10 months by the time I join, if selected for PGPX. Entire period has been with one of the top tier IT companies, for a fortune 100 client.
Certifications - PMP, NCFM (NSE's Certification in Financial Markets), IIBF (Indian Institute of Banking and Finance) + a few internal certifications on Quality, Six Sigma
International Experience - 3 yrs
Extra Curriculars - prominently active during college and also during work
While most of the above seem to align with requirements, my total experience is on the lower band of the average for first two batches.
What would be your suggestion to make up for that ? Is IIM very particular about the number of years of work ex that you carry ? Would they tell me to work for another couple of years and come back after I have 9 or 10 years on my resume ? (because such profiles are easy to place with salaries that IIM would currently target)
Thanks so much for your time and help. | | | | | | | |

Hi Tarun,
I have applied for PGPX 3 and completed my interviews last week. I have posted some questions at the other thread for PGPX 2008 applications. Reposting them here hoping that being in PGPX you would have better insight:
1. The placement stats from PGPX 1 is generalized. Do people with IT bkgnd do better than the avg in terms of salaries given that they must be coming in with an higher than avg incoming salary?
2. Since most are Indian and most foreign placements are in the US, how do the recruiting companies work thru visas? H1 appl on passout (Mar) and actual job starts in Oct (based on typical H1 cycle)? or are most of the foreign placements for Indians who already have green cards/ H1?
3. Most reputed colleges with this kinda course are particular about diversity (Insead/ Oxford/ Ivy League US). I note that there are very few women among the applicants and also one of the posts here mention no international applicants shortlisted this year. Also most competing colleges have this kinda course as their USP, IIMA will have a PGP vs PGPX scenario. Is IIMA PGPX gonna struggle to get into the top lists?
4. For those with about 10 yrs exp and doing very well in IT, they probably exceed the incoming average salary. For those moving to India from US, I can still see the point but for those in this category from India, how good will the ROI be?
Thoughts?

The PGPX requires minimum 7 years experience post graduation.
So forget it for the next 10 years at least.
if you want cat related information go to other threads. Quote:
