abhiabhinav83, well its not impossible for a fresher to get admitted to a top b school. But again, u have to be exceptional in a lot of things. if u have won awards in international olympiads n high gmat score + a very high cpa + loads of ECA, u stand a chance.

also understand that work exp in not only abt numbers, but also abt developing as a person. Considering the fact that the avg work ex in most of the top us/uk b schools is around 5yrs, the school expects you to have certain expereinces that u would share with ur peers at the schools. A global b school education is abt mutual learning n one is expected to contribute in classes. So, more than anything else, it depends on the individual on what he thinks is the righ ttime to apply.

Re: Phoren B-school Assistance Desk - 21-01-2007, 04:59 AM

Hi,

I have tried to go through as many post as possible and want to get some views on my profile.
GMAT :720
% age :71 %
Work exp: 2.4 yrs now (s/w engg(SAP) what else )
Onsite : 6 months ( 3 months Swizz, 3 months Germany)
Extra cirruc. : Okay
Community service :Nil

Have cleared CFA L1 (US) in this Dec and getting ready for the assault for L2 this June
Hope this is some diffrentaitor in my profile.

Is basically intersted in MBA( Finance) want to get into trading, equity research and stuff, IB will also do and my dream college is INSEAD aiming for Jan 2008.

So my question is what else should I do to improve my profile as i have some time left.(March 31 deadline)

Also what are the other colleges I can aim for, one important criteria being the MBA should be off 1 year(getting late for marriage ) which I think narrows the list of colleges to Europe (plz correct me If I am wrong)

Also one last question right now I'm in one of the Indian IT companies and decided to resign would it help my application if i get into some big MNC like IBM, Accenture ?

Thanks for replying,
Sam

Wanted to add to this... (Apart from the same advice - Take atleast 2 yr work exp before applying, to increase the probability of an admit)

It is very essential to understand your style of leading teams and your way of working (Assuming you have community experience and some industry exposure). Match it with the Schools and then prepare school list.

I had drawn a list of schools (7 of them) based on very clear set of factors I looked into but had messed up matching the schools' culture with mine. The result - 4 dings and 1 admit as of now. The accept is Queen's - and then I realized that my essays covered every piece of culture at Queen's. This means that Queen's was my perfect fit.

Ironical that Queen's is not a very preferred B-school for most junta here. If you look at the profiles of Queen's 2008 admits from India, almost all are IIM (Indian IT Male).

The point here is - Research your schools VERY WELL before applying; else you will waste few hundred dollars and invaluable time.

There is always room at the top.

The name tag doesnt matter. Believe me !

Now if you switch will you be able to get great professional recos ! you want to aim for Jan2008 so if you switch will get a great reco from the next place as you could get here ?
Think on that.. 90% NO!

A lot of European schools have 1 year programs and so does ISB. Choose your schools,
stop worrying about the profile and start thinking on your app !

Hi,
There are a lot of ranking lists available. (BW, FT etc..) And they vary quiet some bit. Can anyone tell which one to take as a reference while selecting the bschools?
Regards,
Nitiman

I hope for your sake that you aren't picking colleges based solely on their rankings. While that may work in India, it certainly doesn't apply to US B-schools.
BW/FT rankings might vary but it's like debatin which is better-IIMB or IIMC
each is better than the other in their own way

When you pick a college, make sure that their style/.... fits yours and that you would genuinely enjoy going there.

Hi All
Can somebody provide me some information about MBA in Australia? I mean things like GMAT score required for top 20 schools, placements, cost of the course and finance and also things like whether MBA from Australia has some value in the Indian market or not..

If you can point me to the right thread or some external link that would be great...

TIA
