Re: Phoren B-school Assistance Desk - 12-12-2006, 11:20 AM

Last week, the UK Government announced a new set of rules for people to apply for a UK Work permit under the Highly Skilled Migrant Program (HSMP). Attached is the complete document for everyone's reference, but you can find details on the website as well.

Briefly:
1) The pass-point is now raised to 75 (it was 65 until last month).

2) There's now an age band, anyone over 32 will get NIL points for their age. It means that anyone over the age of 32 applying to the program will require at least a Master's Degree (worth 35 points) + (in India) earn more than INR 7-8L pre-tax (worth 40 points) to be able to qualify for the 75 points required.

3) The MBA Provision continues (which is good), 10 UK schools and 40 others from Europe, US, Asia and Australia make the list. If you graduate from anyone of these 50 schools, you qualify for 75 points therefore an HSMP. You also fall out of this age band.

4) The provisions for significant achievements & doctors appear to have been removed.

This is for info. Please refer the website for more details.

Given the number of Indian applicants to business schools, the schools will surely have their methods to convert your grades into a GPA. Either ask the schools for their way of doing so or don't convert. Either way, write to the schools and find out.

well! if you are looking for the "counselling and ^suggestions n feedback^" for free you have come to the right place

and if you can afford to pay those consulting services for MBA admision, go ahead.

Good Consultants I would suggest: "One very old, one very young"
Maxx Associates,
Stacy Blackman Consulting

I avoid posting urls so just search for these names thats pretty easy.

Hi bacardisprite

Need some input for school choices.

I am from a scientific background....have a masters degree from IIT Madras in India and a Phd from a Max Planck i germany (wud have one soon).

I plan to work for 2 or 3 years before I hit B school, bt giving my GMAT next week.
I want to know more about schools that have a track record for accepting people with a background such as mine.

The schools that I aim for are as follows

INSEAD : Dream School, 1 year, Europe, reputed

Queens and Cornell : Found evidence of several students with PhD being accepted there. Feel I can fit well with their crowd of tech intensive students.

Purdue: high acceptance rates (according to BW) and again focus on technology.

ISB : home sweet home

I would like to hear your thoughts on my school choice and please suggest any other schools that come to your mind.

Thanks
Dev

In my opinion YES. because LBS, Columbia, Kellogg and Wharton are equally competitive and YES Wharton and LBS stand out. But. If you have one thing that can get the adcoms eye (not the GMAt and proj manager but a great thing) then you can.
