Query about B-schools - 23-05-2008, 04:23 PM

Hi,
I am a software engg with about 3yrs exp and an electrical engg degree. To sum just another face in the crowd.
I have a few specific queries.
1> what are the colleges which take admission through GMAT that would be worth going after this much amount of experience.
2> What would be a decent score in GMAT.
3> Which are the colleges which offer scholarship if any.
Actually i dont feel i would be able to afford US colleges I am looking for more cheaper options.
If this is not the right thread to post the question please provide me with the link of the thread which could help me to answer my above queries.

Hi,

Guys, can anybody tell me about this course being offered by International centre of sports studies (CIES) in collaboration with FIFA (Course name is FIFA Masters). Would like to know about its reputation and acceptability?

Hi Bullseye,

You might wanna look up the latest rankings published by FT and EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit). It is more global in nature (compared to many of the US focussed ones) and covers several UK based bschools as well.

Step 2 would be to visit those schools and explore the topics you are looking at (fees etc).

All the best.

Seriously dude.... how do you expect us to predict how good your chances are anywhere??? Particularly when you've given us nothing on what you want to do for a career, whom you want to work for or where you want to go??

Tell us more and someone might help!!

Hi,

Welcome to PG. You will find many threads to help you in making you familiar with different colleges.

For starters, I just want to say this.

Try to look at colleges which fit into your overall future plans. A college might be good overall but does it offer what you are looking for? Let me give an Indian b-school analogy. Suppose you get into IIM A and IIM C and you want to pursue Finance. Which college would you go to? Well IIM A is definitely the best as per popular opinion. But for Finance I would leave IIM A for IIM C.

No college is to impossible to get into if you are a good fit with what it offers. For example, no matter how good you are with your experience it would be very difficult to into say INSEAD not because you lack something. But simply because INSEAD's course is more structured for those who already have had substancial managerial experience in the corporate world and now want to move on even more higher.

Its very important to first ask yourself Why MBA? before Where? The answer should be something more than "making tons of money".

Hope that helps a bit.

Yeah man, I shud hav provided more info:
well I am interested for a career in finance through 2 yr MBA(or maybe 16 month program).
Although am an IT guy, i have been involved IN banking&finance domain. I am a part of Credit-Suisse(Bank in Switzerland) team.
Also due to my inclination towards finance, I am giving NCFM exams.
I plan to do job for 5-6 yrs post Mba(any country) and then if all goes according to plan, start a venture in India.

Plz guide me accordingly.
Thanks in Advance.
