Hi Arshad and erjh,
Congrates to both of you for making it to Cranfield and if everything goes per plan, i will be your mate in the Cranfield class of 2008.
Arshad, to your point about the hiccups in economy, i don't think it should impact to those, who are not targetting Banking sector post MBA.
and more so, i dont feel it is as bad a situation as it was in 2001.
But, more views appreciated on this topic.

I am pretty late in posting in the forum as I got admitted only last week.
I have also been admitted to Cranfield for the class starting in 2008,But I was not fortunate enough to be offered a scholarship.
My profile is GMAT:700
Prof: IT manager at a firm in Cyprus ( Nationality : Indian )
Undergrad: Good ( B.Tech NIT with Proficiency Award )
Work Ex: 7 years
Community Service: good
International exp: 5 years in Cyprus/Israel/USA
I am very happy to have been granted an admissions offer!
I have accepted the admission offer and will join if my finances and other personal situations does not change.I will be coming to Cranfield with my wife in September 2008.
However seeing the recent "hiccup" s in the economy, I am not sure whether we would be graduating into a good job market for MBA's. Has anyone done any research on this ? If you see the problem years 2001-2002,All the MBA schools fared pretty badly, until the market started to recover in 2004.
And finally a big congrats to all who got admitted and for the others I am sure that something better is in store for you ! | | | | | | | | |

Hi Arshad and Manish,
Congrats, of course! I agree with you Manish, I don't think the current market is similar to the 2001 disaster (hard time for us, the Generation X). Anyway, I see this coming MBA year as a renewal for my professional life and it can't be disrupted by the market. I will work better, faster, and be able to understand what I am good at and how to improve. If the market is still so-so by 2009-2010, we will be better armed! And let's imagine that the market gets flourishing again, would you want to take a year break just at that very moment? Not sure.
I can't wait for this MBA to start...
BTW, what about Cass, do you think it is better than Cranfield, especially for consultancy? | | | | | | | |

A bit worried about investing 30 Lacs | Other than the job market scene, I am not clear about what the govt wants to do with the immigration rules. This is link to the article in Times of India today and below is the full text. UK pushes for 'toughest border'-UK-World-The Times of India
--------------------------------
UK PUSHES FOR TOUGHEST BORDERS
LONDON: Britain tightened the rules to regulate entry of skilled non-European workers on Tuesday in the second phase of the biggest overhaul of immigration policy for a generation.
The strict new criteria announced on Tuesday require British employers to prove they cannot fill skilled posts with resident or European workers. Non-European skilled workers will need to have a firm job offer in hand even before they apply for visas. Skilled non-Europeans would also need to speak fluent English and earn £24,000 in their home country in order to have any chance of entering Britain legally to work.
The new rules were announced by immigration minister Liam Byrne as a "system (that) means British jobseekers get the first crack of the whip and that only the skilled migrants we actually need will be able to come". Tuesday’s announcement comes barely eight weeks after Britain formally inaugurated an Australian-style points-based system in the hope it would have "one of the toughest borders in the world" by year-end.
On February 29, rules governing the controversial, existing highly-skilled migrants programme were overhauled and a new licensing system put in place for employers wanting to recruit from overseas locations outside Europe.
The February changes dealt with Tier 1 of the immigrant worker category. Tier 2 is the second of five tiers due to be rolled out over the next 12 months. It will be introduced along with Tier 5, for temporary workers such as musicians, actors and sportsmen. Tier 4, which covers students, will follow at the beginning of 2009."
----------------
What it essentially means is though the MBA schools in UK want outside EU students for diversity of class, they will be given 2nd class treatment when it comes to job placements. This is scary - do your MBA and go back home and search for a job! is it.
Does anyone know whether MBAs who graduate from within UK will be meted different treatment compared to MBAs who are from outside but want to come to UK to work. | | | | | | | |

You may think I am not answering your question, but I am. Be sure that an MBA is exactly that: the right tool to become a genuine manager and improve your leadership.
most schools have a specific spirit or an expertise area (finance for lsb, international business for insead, personal development and leadership for cranfield, innovation for tanaka...), but all are designed to provide a excellent learning in general management, aren't they? | | | | | | | |

The interview is with Mr Séan Rickard, Director of Admissions. Appreciate your help on this. | Sorry mate, my essay was about "society, better off without cars?"
My advice, assuming it is a phone interview:
- be yourself
- prepare enough to answer obvious questions (why mba, what next, why cranfield...), don't read your papers, be natural
- select a leader you actualy know a lot about. It doesn't matter if he/she is a famous one, like gates or tata, but at least, know your subject!
- be full of energy, he can't see you (no body language) but he is able to hear you smiling.
- listen to what he says, articulates when you speak
- be full of energy (yes, again, you must be an alpha male/female)
- believe in this: You have got an interview, it means you could be the one. He wants to discover and select a good profile, he doesn't want to eliminate you. Assume that this interview is to confirm what he thinks is a good profile: sell yourself!
best of luck!
