| visa problem for those appearing at chennai consulate -
22-03-2006, 05:40 PM
Hi guys, I have received a US mba admit and I intend to travel in August.I am presently working as a software engineer in bangalore. My I-20 is still a few days away. What I have found is that we can apply only to the chennai consulate(those in bangalore) and that too after receiving the I-20. But the earliest appointment available is already into septemeber. The emergency appointments are booked only if the date of travel is within the nest 6 weeks. But the trouble is that I need to furnish at least a months notice. So I need an earlier appointment. So this is a tricky situation. Guys please share your thoughts here and if possible suggest a way out. So guys who are in a similar situation lets exchange our thoughts and lets be in touch. best regards vipul <snip>

Hi Vipul,
I am in the same boat as you are....May be, my situation is a bit more bad since I have to give atleast 2 months notice. Anyways, waiting for the I-20's .....Its taking a bit too long to arrive. I am from Bangalore as well.
So which B-School are u planning to attend ??
Cheers

Hi Vipul,
Still deciding between ASU and Penn....Have u applied for Finance at Wisconsin ? I have heard its a great school for finance.
Regarding the Visa, there's nothing much we can do about it...Just wait for the I-20's and hope to get an appointment date as early as possible.
Cheers,

Hi Guys,
I guess some of you must have got your I-20s.
Now regarding the appointment date, the US consulate releases new slots for interview very frequently. so keep checking the VFS site 3-4 times a day. Keep the info for DS 156, 157 and 158 forms ready. As soon as you see a suitable date, book the date. I booked appointment for Jun 20th. some of my friends got interview slots in May. This was just 10 days back.
All the best for ur visa process!!
Smile

guys,
u dont need ur i20s as such for booking your visa... But what u need is ur SEVIS number which is printed on your i20... u can contact the school where u've got an admit and explain ur situation to them and ask for ur sevis no.. there have seen several schools(prestigious ones at that) which have obliged... | | | | | | | |

guys who have multiple admits can book the visa slot asap with the i20 that they have and then later on, change the details and take another printout.. while attending your visa interview, u can very well explain ur position about ur concern for slots and the visa officer will not object(source.. a lady in USEFI Chennai)... also, getting slots is not that difficult.. u jus need to spend a lot of time refreshing and relogging the page.. u are bound to hit upon one but u will need to spend some serious time... but i suppose its the least u can go.. after-all an MBA at US beckons u..
Best wishes | | | | | | | |
