Anyone for MBA in Australia? - 20-02-2006, 07:24 PM

Aloha MadGuys,

Any one in for MBA in australia? What are the GMAT score requirements?
I just checked this Top Aussie MBA list:
1 Australian Graduate School of Management
2 Melbourne Business School
3 Macquarie Graduate School of Management
4 Monash Mount Eliza Business School
5 Brisbane Graduate School of Business
6 University of Queensland
7 University of Adelaide
8 Curtin University of Technology
9 University of Technology Sydney
10 University of South Australia (International GSM)
11 RMIT University

AGSM and MBS need GMAT scores but Oueensland doesn't. Has anyone checked out requirements of the other B-schools mentioned???

Hey man from what i hv researched AGSM and MSB are good schools ....but some how i doubt the credibilty of the schools that dont require GMAT.
I talked to an alumni of UTS (sydney MBA)...she came to india by her choice ..but here she has was seen as fresher MBA and at par wit sydhenham MBA ...though i was encouraged to MBA and was told that there are jobs avlbl after MBA.....some how i wasn't
convinced

Apart from those

Macquarie Graduate School of Management
and Monash Mount Eliza Business School are also good.....

I am still in in two minds abt MBA in aus

Yeah you are rite about non-Gmat colleges, but Queensland seems to be a good university. If I go for non Gmat colleges, I will go for Queensland, not others.

By the way what is the general Gmat score that puts you in good colleges? 650+?
And what options do you have if you are a fresher with no previous job experience?

Australian B'school like Melbourne will give a good exposure but they do not offer 100% placements and in case there are no placements...what is the value of the Australian MBA in India ??

Buddy,
Let me tell u that MBA from AUstralia is big risk. Recently one of my friend had to come back immediately after his MBA cuz the Australian government won't let me stay even for a day after his degree completion.
Well, i have also heard that u get PR if u apply well in advance & ur work ex is relevant to the course u r doing !
SO find out as much as u can before taking the decision.
And also share ur knowledge... that what we all are here for

the govt wont let YOU stay after HIS degree...eh...multiple personality disorder or is there more to it...

Sorry..just kidding...

Guys, look at the placement stats for top US schools, how many schools show 100 % at graduation? This, in the largest economy in the world. Knowing this, you can temper your expectations about a postMBA job down under.

If you have it in you, you can hack it anywhere.
Business is a different ballgame that most of us have limited experience playing. Securing a job in a foriegn land is all the more difficult.

Good luck...

Ok Friends..I can guide you properly on this. My brother has pursued MBA from Deakin Uni, Melbourne and he is in India currently. No..As per his advise dont even think of doing MBA in Australia unless you are getting in AGSM or Uni. Melbourne. Jobs are not available after MBA in Australia, If you are in lucky 25% then you may get job which is relavant to your qualifacation. His most of friends are working as a team leader in call centers. Non.GMAT institutes are big risk. If you want to know more you can PM me..I will give his contact infomation and he will guide you properly.

Expect unexpected, always !

650+ is a descent score...one of frnd had done frone from UTS and came back to india (out of personal choice) ....but AUS MBA is not recognised here as ....post MBA u will be competing wit MBA from Sydenham and KJ Somaiya....so it makes no sense in spending 10 -15 INR lacs in AUS .....if u hv rich father then its a different ball game all together .....as place to study it nice ...thats wat i hv heard.....

Hi all,

Let me give you a biy of insight. I agree with most of your discussions. I have done my schooling and graduation in New Zealand. I subsequently worked for Telstra, then came to India and worked here for 2 years to get some experience. Now i am currently heading Operations and Strategy for a Mobile Network Operator.

I think firstlly before choosing an MBA anywhere in the world, we need to be certain of the following things:

1.Why choose a particular school?
2.Is it giving the diversity you are after?
3.Is the school good for networking?
4.Does the faculty have enough exposure?
5.Which faculty (finance, Mktg, Operations etc) is good?
6.Does it offer good Overseas exchange programs with Ivy League Schools?
7.Lastly placements.

I have just got myself into Melbourne Business School, Australia. It has a very strong faculty, good opportuntiy for networking.

At the end of the day we get placed better, if our networking is strong.

I have to stress that my work experience of Seven(7) years really helped.

Guys if anyone need any assistane, please do not hesitate to ping me.
