Hi Guys..
Firstly I would like to thank Puhrince and everybody else who have contributed to make this thread so informative..
Well just to give a brief introduction of myself..I have been trying to give a fillip
to my career by doing an MBA..I have around 5 years of experience in the IT industry.
(2 in India and rest 3 in Canada) .I am presently working in Toronto, so eyeing on all
Canadian schools.I have almost made up my mind for Rotman if I can get an admission.
My GMAT score is 710.I purposefully waited to get my PR before I apply so that I don't need to bother about the loan thing much..
Anybody else applying for classes starting 2009 ?
Thanks.

I also plan to apply to Rotman for Fall 2009. I am studying for my GMAT now and hoping to take it in August.
I am currently in the US (h1 visa), and I am thinking whether it makes sense to apply for Candian PR NOW in prepartion of studying in Canada, or wait until next year (when I am actually accepted into Rotman)? If I do apply for PR this year, and don't get into Rotman next year, it is unlikely I will move to canada.
But the other concern is by applying for PR now, will it affect my student visa next year (assuming I get into Rotman, and yet don't have canadian PR)?
I will be applying to US schools as well, but I am looking at Rotman because it is 2 yr program and the PR process in canada 'seems' easier than the US (i know Ivey has a good reputation as well in canada, but it is only a 1 yr program).

Finally the decision to apply for PR or not rests with you..but I would strongly say 'YES'.
The PR process is real fast now.It takes 10-11 months nowadays for those applying to Buffalo.I myself got in 10 months.Well i really donot think pending application for PR should affect student VISA as I have seen one of my previous roommate getting a student visa while his PR application was pending.

Technocrati,
Thanks for the response. I think i will be applying for PR since I will need to secure a loan in order to do my MBA, and without a co-signer, I think the Canadian PR is my most realistic option (again, assuming i get into Rotman). Again, the various ppl on this posting have been really helpful with their advice/insight, just reading this Rotman thread gives me a better idea of what lies ahead.
Also, technocrati, since you are already in canada, how does the job outlook for MBA's look like (assuming the canadian economy isn't tanking like the US). I am thinking about finance jobs here, not IB as per say, but like corporate finance roles. Quote:

I have a friend of mine who has graduated from IVEY this year.He hasnot got a job yet but for other reasons. He hasnot got his PR yet and doesnot have a work permit either. However he says most of the guys be it Rotman or IVEY have got through decent jobs in the range of 80k.He also says that ultimately at the end of 2-3 months majority of them are placed. He says that IVEY being a 1 year course, you get very less time to grasp the MBA material and concepts. He also suggests if finance is the sector you are interested in,Rotman is the place to be.Getting into the dream job will certainly not be a cake walk but is certainly gettable.

Hi Puhrince/Barricuda!
As I prepare for coming session of Rotman, I have couple of questions which i am sure everyone would be having:
1. What is the dress code at Rotman? I have come across couple of B-schools, especially in India which have formal dress code.
2. Would it possible for you guys to provide the recommended book list? Although this may or may not remain same for the coming session, but there must be some books which every student must have.

Rahul | | | | | | | |

1. No dress code for the regular classes. You are expected to wear full business formals to company info sessions. Business casuals maybe required for some other gatherings as well.
2. Sorry I seem to have lost my copy of the book list. You should be getting your copies sometime in June.... Quote:

For foreigners applying for PR in Canada. Do we have to visit Canada during a certain period, or live there for a while or can we just sit at home and apply and get it? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
