I did not stress my work-ex, and actually I don't remember doing so. I think all the univs I applied to pretty much waived it off when I sent the transcripts for my MS degree in US. My work-ex was more of a safety factor...so this might not work out in ur case for Rotman or any other univ u apply. Quote: |

I had written to them about my work-ex in the US but they haven't mentioned anything related to that in their reply. Just wanted to know if you had stressed your US work-ex while requesting the TOEFL waiver? (or was it more becasue you had already given the test for your MS) If yes, I will send out more for TOEFL waiver requests stressing this criteria or else I'll just have to plan for the test or produce the magic letter.
Anybody else get TOEFL waivers purely based on international work-ex from Rotman or any other school?

yes thats what the dean of the school had referred to in the past when it dropped a few spots everywhere...look for a similar rise in the FT rankings out in Jan 2007 Quote:

Hi all,
Please guide me, i have a specific query. It is mentioned that to apply at Rotman you need to have average of 75% in your final year of undergraduation. It is for Canadian students. But i am not sure how they take it for indian students. I have 74% of average during my final year. Am i eligible to apply at Rotman? the link given at Rotman website to compare the same in the international context is not working.. Please Help friends. I am already late for the first deadline.
Thanks

Thats a weird requirement I thought ....why just in final year....luckily it works for me so I can't be of much help to your question. But the Rotman adcom have been pretty good at responding to my numerous queries......thats the best place to ask.
I know that Rotman has a Nov 15 deadline for the first round, but I am not sure how that works since I think they have rolling admissions. "Trust me, I know what I am doing" - Sledgehammer

Ok, I just found this thread... and it seems really helpful.
I just got an invite from Rotman to apply. Is that a positive sign or is it something they do for a lot of people? Plus i am interested coz i want to major in Finance and toronto is a pretty good city for that.
Now i am hearing mixed reviews of job scenes in canada. But what i really want to know is:
1) Rotman boasts of its summer internship placements and says its a good way to earn some money. Is this applicable for international students also or are they not allowed to do internships as well?
2) Canada allows u to work for 1 year after graduation. So does that give u an equal opportunity against other citizens of canada to apply?? or are there still some restrictions when i apply to any company?
I would be grateful for any help and suggestions from any international student studying in Canada (not necessarily rotman).
My main aim is to atleast work 1 year to pay back some of the expenses.. after which i would be very happy to even come back to India where the market is really on the up.

usually when a school does that, its trying to increase its profile..in Rotman's case, I know they are trying to increase their profile in India big time and elsewhere in Asia too...so thats probably one reason they might have invited you to apply.
regd ur queries below,
1) all international students can work for internships - haven't heard of any country which had any restriction, if there was, there wouldn't be any international students there.
2) there are no restrictions for the 1yr work permit..the best thing about being in Canada is that you can apply for immigration i.e. permanent residency as soon as you land here..so you will not need to get a work permit anyway (by the time you graduate)..you can;t do this in US, first you need to get a H1(which is getting tough for MBA students outside top 20 schools) and then it takes forever to get a green card.
p.s. if you are interested in Finance, its a great place to be - excellent faculty from Harvard, Wharton, Chicago, LBS)and location of Toronto..although I am not plannning to major in that, from what I have seen, try doing the CFA (1st level) at least by the time u come here..it gives u an advantage in Canada.
