assuming you have less work exp (age 24), I would suggest joining any school you join in US/Canada/UK with more work exp..a lot of intl students are finding it hard to get the jobs they want and the salaries they want due to lack of work exp..in US the other issue is a lot of companies prefer green card holders.
that apart, u shud be able to get in Manchester if u have got in Rotman.

boy. the last 2 days have been pretty stressful.
i thot i knew im not gonna join this year and every one (family friends) were fine wid the decision. but after the actual admit has come into the picture, things have been so different. most of the ppl want me to join this year itself. some others are saying no... give one more year... im confused. lets see what ppl around here think... ill give a short write-up.

im 25, doctor. working for the past 9-10 months.
about 2 years back had decided no doctory fr me... so decided to do an mba..helps change career tracks. decided that i need to be with a lot of different minded ppl....so decided against indian institutes (i have nuthin against engineers but they all have the same mind set...and indian schools are full of em. i know that foreign ones full of em too..but still am hopeful of diversity there)

gmat 750.
priority colleges... LBS, california berkley, rotman, manchester, schulick..in that order.
just filled rotman this year coz they sent me a mail about interviews in delhi, so filled an application quickly just to test the waters. i had decided that i would have another year of experience and apply next year properly.
but now ive been admitted.
- is there any point wasting a year hoping that i might get some schol next year....after all have extra year to earn!?!
- ill be working fr another year as a doctor which i am not gonna continue anyway.
- next year i can try fr my two fave schools... lbs and berkley.. at least i wont ever feel i didnt give it a shot.

these three are the main questions..... what do u guys think???
two cents please.

ats , with ur gmat score and a couple of more years work exp, u might get a really good schol - thats what i have seen so far from other admits. At the same time, since ur changing tracks, do u know which track u might be headed towards? Rotman is top 10 in the world for Finance (FT rankings), and is a very finance centric school..a lot of recruiters look favorably to ppl already having fin.background, and some banks consider engineers with solid work exp - these factors are similar to other placements in other top schools...and the same cud apply to mgmt roles. So with minimal work exp, u might lose out..u can use the extra year or two to study or take up a job in the field u want to major in - it will help u in the long run.. a lot of intl students in outside India are disappointed with the jobs they get..my other suggestion is to leverage ur medical background into business careers related to it - pharma,healthcare..etc

Rotman rocks coz it's in multicutural Toronto. A great city and plenty of Indians. Lots of "bhagra bars". Lots of punjabi kuddis. cricket. bollywood shows. Niagara Falls.

I stick to my statement "Rotman rocks"
What say puhrince??

aaah thats why! yep - i am leaning towards going there..am currently in Detroit - its plain Jane compared to Toronto but the the winter weather sucks at both the places..since i am married hopefully i can get peek a boos at kuddis none of my friends want to visit me here but are already ready to come visit me in Toronto now - that helps! finally, its a big financial hub (3rd biggest in North America) - it currently helps my spouse with good odds to find a job.

Re: Question for vaidya - 17-03-2006, 11:36 PM

Vaidya,
I see that u have ur MS from ASU and am guessing that u r in USA and would like to move to Toronto. CAn I ask you what made u take decision to opt for canadian school rather than enrolling into some good school in US.
I am in a similar kind of situation, MS and working and planing to get into canadian business school. My reason would be faster permanent residency in canada and no second OPT (used up one for MS) here in US to start working immediately after I am done with B school. (thereby causing the F1 H1 cap gap issue, incase I am not able to extend my I 20 till august).

Hi ppl

Those of you who have got an admit from Rotman and are planning to join, what is the source of funds that you are counting on ? And has anyone already applied for the Study Permit ? If yes , please share your experiences, dos and donts etc .

Cheers
PK
