Hey Maverick,
I dont know much about specialization of vlerick but it is like the best in belgium. I was also in their stalls but never gave much interest cos i was not going to go to belgium. Nothing against it cos its like ranked 1st or 2nd in one category i think ROI or career progression or employment success.. pls check out which one. Just the fact that its in belgium is detering me from applying.

I also found UCD very interesting. Its in Ireland and qualifies for the highly skilled work permit by uk.

Hey Fink,
IE is a darn good program. Its like ranked 15th by FT.
Advantages:
Great program.. good value.. chance of getting scholarship.. qualifies for uk hs work permit...supposed to be a very informal school.. at least thats what the reps @ the bangalore fair told me when i asked about difference between iese and ie. Iese is more of a traditional school.. ie is more of a party school.
Disadvantages: Working in spain needs learning a good level of spanish and its difficult to pick up spanish within a years time.. thats the length of the program. not many in india know abt ie and if you want to come back after mba it may not be worth it.

Hi.

The discussion with Empresa came out ok. Conclusion is that I could do with another year of working experience. So, other than that, I'm going to sit tight and only finalise things end of the year.

IE is actually ranked number 12 by FT (2006 ranking). Its main focus is in entrepreneurship supported by internationalism and innovation. The school actually has a specific department for entrepreneurship.

In addition to that, IE has a very strong supportive career office that helps alumni and external companies recruit its graduates.

(I realise that I am beginning to sound like an IE promoter) :P

Well, all in all, I am comfortable with IE and their representatives (those that I have met so far). If ranking has anything to do, they are well ranked. If specialisation is the key, I feel that entrepreneurship would be a good major, with a minor in finance.

Funding-wise, apparently they have arrangements with selected banks to provide loan facilities. I will be getting a list of banks and requirements and margin of financing provided.

Actually no on both counts. Vlerick seems to be very slow on getting back on alumni matters. I have spoken to them in person, via email and via online chat asking for alumni contacts and each time they have said that they would email me but so far I have yet to receive any contacts from them. Not too happy about their response in that area.

No, I will only be applying end of the year. Though I will probably start it up in a couple of months to give myself prep time. Any advice? Have you submitted to IE yet?

I am looking at

Wharton
Chicago
Tuck
Vlerick
Empresa

Hi cimda,

Have apped to Vlerick, HEC, LBS, Kellog, NUS and ISB.

I dont think I would be apping to IE as it requires at least 5 years experience. (as per EIU)

Vlerick opens on monday, so I'll be behind these guys abt the alumni from tomorrow.

I was looking primarily at european schools. I would like to know from people currently studying / finished MBA in the last couple of years about placements scenario post MBA. I have heard its tough to get placements for non-EU students. Can anyone throw some light on this ? BTW I've admits both from IE and Vlerick.

RPJ,

Yeah thats true. I have a couple of friends who completed their MBA in UK and then returned to India.

Have you started visa processing for Spain/ Belgium? I hear that one has to get a no objection certificate from the Indian govt for Belgium.. and that is time consuming. By when do you have to confirm admission at Vlerick?
