hey Poseidon, first of all......congratulations for wharton!!

wanna ask u MANY question!!!
rite now im a student of 3rd yr, ECE, in BIT, MESRA.
n my current GPA is like 6.2.......whn i'll passout i'll sumhow manage to make it to take it across 6.5 i.e sumthing like 71-72% if tht OK for wharton??
my skool records r not tht great!!
10th CBSE - 72%
12th CBSE - 64%

had a real bad time in class 11th!!!
my marks really suck in tht class!

newayz...i got many certificates of sports,debates,quizes etc.
im planin to do sum social work kind of thing as i have heard tht US coll. really give imp. to these things.i had NSS (national service scheme) for 4 semesters in my coll.)!!!
r they gonna help??

wht r d other essential things required for US MBA????

and one more VERY IMP thing............my dad is workin here in the US...he'll be gettin a green card this yr..tht means when i'll take the admission i'll surely have the GREEN CARD in my hands...so..is tht gonna help???

so as u can see i DONT have very STRONG academics but still there r few factors on my side!!!

wht do u have 2 say bout this?? are there ne chances of me makin 2 wharton or kellogs??

and about the work-ex,i know its VERY VERY IMP to have it....but i know ppl with no work ex and studin in duke and stanford!!

so howz tht possible???

Hi folks!

Congratulations upon your admission into Wharton! I am an MBA aspirant with 1 year work ex in a software firm. I have decent acads(84,95,79) inclusive of a Proficiency in Math award, very good extra curriculars (I've held positions of leadership and done well) and have been involved in minor social service activities.

I am yet to write my GMAT, but Wharton is my dream school and I want to make sure I get there. Please let me know when best to apply and what additions I could make to my profile!

First of all, Congrats to Poseidon for making it to Wharton! It's a big thing! I've just joined this forum. Am a 2008 mba aspirant. Mainly interested in applying to ISB and few b-schools in US. Here is my profile:

Undergrad: IIT - CGPA: 6.5/10 - Mech. Engg.
Grad (MS): US (slightly above avg univ) - GPA: 4.0/4.0 - Mech. Engg.
Work-ex: 3 yrs (by Jun 2008 - R&D (Mech. Engg.) division in a very good automotive company in US
GMAT: 690
Ex-Cur: decent

Poseidon-
1. with my profile, do you think I can target for Kellogg, Wharton, and Stern? If not, what range of b-schools can I aim for?
2. do you think my MS gpa can counter-balance the low undergrad gpa?
3. all b-schools say that the GMAT is just one of the criteria. However, it seems to me that they always end up admitting guys with high gmat (or may be the converse is true!) - making it the most important criterion!
4. in the essays, say if I have to cite a situation I dealt with, can I use some technical jargon to explain it the best? or, should I write it in a non-technical (more generalized) way?

I appreciate anyone giving their frank opinions.

Hello frnds, great to see such impressive profiles.
I need some help from you guys, haven't done much research, gave my GMAT last month surprisingly to see a score of 760! Below is my profile, can you please suggest me which schools to apply and when( i think i can only do it only next year).

I have,
3 years exp, by next year september will be 4.2 years exp. at Hewlett Packard.
3 months work exp in Germany.
760 on GMAT
GPA: top college in state, and in top 15% of class.

planning to apply Michigan(ross), HEC paris, Yale, ISB etc... I am still confused as to which colleges to apply.
can fund upto 10 lakh ofcourse look for loan/grants for rest.

on the Extra curricular side,
I have been associated with a school for handicapped children for past 6 years. bought some changes there.
state level award (Rajyapuraskar) in Scout.
have won more than 30 events in interschool competition in my high school. (may be this wont help much).
know basic french.
i have started section level fun team and social cause group at office.

Can someone please suggest me some colleges? and what i should build and work upon in the next 6-7 months available to me?

I have applied to Wharton. I don't know if I wll get an interview call.
But I would appreciate a detailed discussion on what the interview is like.

M.S - Computers from Univ of Pennsylvania (same as Wharton) - GPA - 3.85
Work Ex - 7 yrs (5 in the US)
Currently working for Lehman Brothers in NYC (Fixed Income analytics/research), since the last 2.5 yrs.
Current title - Asst. VP.
Cleared Series 7/63 exams conducted by NASD for obtaining Registered Rep license for Broker/Dealers in US/NY.
Have also worked for Goldman Sachs in NYC.
Involved in recuritment for Lehman Brothers. Have represented them at Harvard and NYU.

Hoping for 700 + in GMAT.
