Hi Sowmya !!
Firstly, I wud like to appreciate the time u takeout and the information u add.
Next, probably, this is not the right thread to post this, but I needed this answer real bad.
I have 8 years experience in sw development. GMAT 700. pretty good acads and extra cull.
Have recvd my admn offer from ISB. But, what I am concerned abt now, is will an MBA from ISB help me now ? Or shud I let this go and apply for the early rounds in one of the top ranked US schools. Will sometime down the line I'll regret not going for an international school.
Gave my GMAT on jan 4th 2006, sos didn't get a chance to apply only in MIT Sloan.
So, is it wise to let the ISB offer go for now ?
thanx in advance | | | | | | | |

thanx in advance | Hmmmm.. Its really an interesting question! Lets say, what are ur chances of getting into ur dream school in the US? How do you rate ur chances.. and once u start thinking, think about whether forgoing ISB is really worth it.. talk to the current students at ISB, see what u are seeking out of a business school... if you think u may find what u are looking for in ISB, there is no need to look beyond! You need to put in lots of thought into this! I am sure an US b-school looks sexy from far away but do you really think u can go thro the stress of not finding an internship or job that u really really want.. are u ready to settle for something less... now, the opportunities to interview with firms are much greater at an Indian B-school.. so, think about those factors.. follow my blog for in-depth nagging from me
But then again, there are the pros... the damn new life that this opportunity gives u... nothing compares to it.. the freedom, the confidence, the challenges... not just the academics... theres so much opportuntites to know abt urself So, all I say, is, weigh ur decisopns, talk to family & friends, talk to people.. go to the place not that has a 'brand' but a place where u believe that u will 'grow'
Thats my thought... | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Simba For This Useful Post: | | | | | |

Hi Sowmya.
Thanx for the response.
Thats pretty much what I was thinking of, esp. taking the stress part. I did not add in my profile that I am married and have a 9 month old kid. So, that'll add to the pressure in case I have problems with internship and job later.
Regarding my chances, its difficult to judge now. What I feel is, next year if I don't get into one of the top US B schools, atleast I'll make it somewhere, lets say some (whats the polticially correct word) not so great US B schools or maybe even IIM-A PGPX or ISB back again. What I loose is a year. Another way I look at is, "agar ISB mein ho gaya, then US mein bhi kaheen-na-kaheen to ho hi jana chahiye".
I've been thru your blogs, most of them and they are pretty informative and encouraging as well.
Well those r my thoughts right now. Have to decide within this week and plan ahead. It is a tuff one to make.
Also, now that I read my previous caption, there r quite a few mistakes / typos, pls bare with me for that. What I meant was due to late entry / GMAT I've applied only to MIT Sloan R2 and LBS R1. Both interview calls awaited.
Thanx once again. | | | | | | | |
