Correct me if I am wrong

hi krithika,
as i've already mentioned on this thread, the main books to study from are the Oficial Guide, Kaplan, Princeton and if nothing else then Barron's. But i'll still say that the best way is to go through the basics n then give lots of practice tests in the last 2 weeks. I guess u'll get answers to lots of ur questions from earlier posts on this thread. In case u need any info in particular then do ask....
as regards the financial aid thing, i've heard from quite a few sources that inspite of what the univ write on their websites n stuff, financing ur own studies does help. Maybe the websites r not that reliable a source e.g. most of them say that living expenses in the US would come to about 18000 USD a year while indians staying out their spend an average of around 600-700 USD a month. So, maybe we should rely more on what ppl out there actually say. anybody got any further leads... ???

There may be Institutes, say below the top 50 who might care if you finance the studies, but I can def. assure you that the top ones don't care a hoot.

| Hi niks : ASAP -
28-07-2005, 04:55 PM
I'm planning to give GMAT in Nov. 1st week. preparation part OK....i've started 2 weeks back . what do u say..should i prepone the exam..? ( i haven't registered as yet).
i'm doing it from KAPLAN'S....you said na that u gave lot of practice tests in last 2 weeks..?? the sources??...kaplan's CD...+ ??.... IMPORTANT : what's the reality of the scholarships in US B-schools?? .... i have met a consultant & he paints a rosy picture but i'm not convinced as yet. i need you inputs ASAP...
scholarships coz...my budget is max. 22 lacs ( including living expenses) & without schols no US school is accesible for me.
i have zeroed on ISB, Singapore : NUS, NTU, may be SIM & SMU...
so u really need to tell me the reality 'bout the schols.
hey buddy...u in mumbai..?? do write me you cell no. man...i'm in Pune. I'm working in Satyam here...in SAP circle. u can either write me ur no. ( obviously if u wish to...) or directly sms or contact me at +919822417347. latter option will be gr8 n fast.
For the info sake, i've 13 months of work exp. till date. 1 more IMP. : have you written your essays..?? do i need to work on them ( work...obviously i've started thinking but what about doing the actual tangible part) ...BEFORE THE GMAT...take into consideration that i'm giving exam in nov. mid ( take 18th as the ceiling)
SIMba n the pagal guy are kindly requested to chip in with their precious inputs.

hi shekhar,
1st nov is still a long way to go... 3 months is a lot of time for GMAT prep, but then again thats for u to see. If u haven't taken a date for the exam as yet then i suggest u prepone it by about a month or so. just take into consideration the fact that the last date for 1st round of applications for ISB is 1st Nov - and since u've shortlisted it so just look into it.
sources of practice tests - i had 4 CD's - kaplan, princeton, cambridge and peterson - though only the first two are good enough. u can get all of them cheap in palika if u r in delhi.
as regards the expenses, i dont think 22 lakhs would suffice if u aim for the US. u n i seem to be in the same boat as far as that is concerned - software job, 1 year work-ex! And believe me, getting an admit from a good univ is quite tough with such a limited work-ex, let alone getting a scholarship. so prepare urself for that.
i haven't written any essays as yet, but i suggest u do it once u r over with ur GMAT. coz unless u give the exam u wont be able to finalize where to apply - and each univ has its own list of essays.
finally, i am currently in delhi, not mumbai. i wouldn't particularly like to put in my phone number on a forum, but u can PM me in case u need any info in particular. will be glad to help....

hey since ur online..
ok essays after GMAT...how much time does it usually take..??
my guess is that each univ. has it's own koschans specified on its website..??....refute or support me on this..
so if this is true, then i can draft them before the exam & save time...
as the GMAT wisdom goes...i wud like to work upon the writing skills...so tell me if there is any material on that...any essay books which i can read n gain some insight on how the ideas flow n all...
what was your content of preparation...kaplan..??...i've heard that IMS material for GMAT is good....any comments on that?? ... Quote: |

so if this is true, then i can draft them before the exam & save time... | Yes, every univ does have its own set of essay questions. but i dont know how u plan to write those essays unless u have finalised the universities - which again can be done once u have ur GMAT score. But then again, its entirely ur own prerogative. If it works for u that way then thats the way u should go.... Quote: |

Havent heard of any book dealing with essays per se. The best strategy would be to write an essay a day in the last month of ur prep. The AWA section of Kaplan is real good. It should help...
