Getting a job should be no problem for guys from HBS, Wharton, etc! ... Even for people with relatively less industry links/contacts ... For every 1 company which refuses to give such people a job, there will be 10 companies which will die to have an Ultra-elite B-School alumni on their payrolls ... Brand does matter ...
If you manage to get an admit from the top 10 US Universities, blindly accept it! ... Even with no schol ... You'll never live to regret the experience! ... Your value will build exponentially a couple of years after you get into the industry ...
The uncertainty comes in for B-Schools in the 25-50 range ... And maybe also for some Asian B-Schools ... In the former, a lot of money is at stake, so I would'nt recommend it unless you've got some VERY decent grant ... For the latter, although the monetary risk is lesser (NUS MBA is approx 7 lakh for tuition and 3 for living), the job market is dicey ... You have to make your own luck ...
Like I mentioned in the last point of my last post, it all depends on where you want to settle down in the long run ...
Indian MBA - If you want to stay home and remain king, any of the top 10 Indian MBAs will serve you much better than any other degree ... Corporate India is growing fast, and you may be the next international business face of India! ... Plus you enjoy the luxury of being at home and leveraging your past networks ... Not just your professional links, but your personal links from school days, college days, family contacts etc etc ... You BELONG from Day 1 in the industry ...
Asian MBA - Asia is going to be the next economic power house of the 21st century ... It's not just India which is facing the reverse brain drain ... Lots of Chinese US B-School MBAs are returning back to their homeland to capitalize on the growing opportunities, regardless of the lower pay ... MNCs looking to make an inroad into Asian markets may look at local MBAs to provide a better insight into the business mindset ... That's where an Asian MBA might derive it's value from ... NUS/NTU does have brand value in this context ... Plus it's closer to home! (Singapore-Chennai is cheaper than Delhi-Chennai) ...
US MBA - Maximum value if you want to be a Global player ... Inspires a lot of awe in the international market ... Even if you don't make a job in the US (Or don't get a work Visa), using the international network that you would have built over your stay, you can get a job virtually anywhere in the world ... That's why getting into a school with excellent networking is such a high priority for me ...
On the flip side, if you get into a US School taking a huge loan, you can't exactly return back to India, if that is your intention ... Paying it off in Rupees will be murder ... So if you're considering the US option, get ready to bear the long term consequences of it ... Get ready to lead the life of an NRI ...
Many other factors which go into deciding where you want to do an MBA ... It's a very personal decision, and there is no unique formula to arrive at it (By pluggin in GMAT scores or Placement digits) ... This is a decision which will impact not only your career, but your social life - where you'll reside, where your kids will grow up and how far away from home you will be ...
I make it sound scary, no!!

... Relax ... That's why I say don't do an MBA immediately after graduating! ... You can't possibly know what you want! ... Take some time, work, and things will automatically become clearer ... I don't claim that I know what I want yet ... That's why I've decided to work for a couple of years more and try to find out ...
Ciao! ...
