I want to accurately place you in the rungs of the whatever ladder.

Do you think there's a good correlation between the GRE and CAT scores?

K
well..err.. i am definitely not the GRE stud as u think i am. my scores are:

GRE 1430

verbal 630/800
quant 800/800
AWA 4.0/6.0

TOEFL 273/300
toefl essay 5.5/6.0

CAT 98.92 percentile

verbal 99.78
quant 89.xx
DI 89.xx

lookin at my scores, u would definitely not find a correlation..while the ETS elf believes that i am at the 88th percentile in verbal..the CAT gurus believe me to be at the 99th and beyond

dunno about any co-relation, but traditionally, the people who have done well in GRE have also managed to score a good percentile in CAt too even though the exam pattern is totally different for GRE and CAT.

seems that its tru for me..bad GRE..worse CAT

i guess, my comfort level wid exams grew with the number of exams i gave..so except for GRE/CAT in which i performed quite pathetically, i managed to qualify all other B-school entrance exams (interviews as well )

I have come up with the required correlation...

GRE 1400+, CAT score can range from 98.0 - 99.5, Generally near sub-99 levels.
GRE 1500+, CAT score can range from 99-100.0. Generally above 99.5 levels.

I know GRE math is a joke and GRE Verbal is tougher than CAT, but still trying to get a reasonable picture.
I want guys who have given both tests to dispute the above.

I am obviously assuming u were equally nervous or not so much so in both the tests. Prep level in CAT is expected to be higher ofcourse.

i guess this correlation seems fine enough..but just pointing out a couple of more examples from my college. two ppl (different batches though)

the first got 2350/2400 in GRE and 99.3 in CAT
the second got 1560/1600 in GRE and 98.2 in CAT

my take is that GRE vebal is one big dicey paper. with the new GRE exam, the scores in verbal seem to have dropped big time and the maths scores seem to have improved.

QE, I think 1560 and less than 99 in CAT means low levels of prep. Definitely so.
I think QA in CAT really needs some serious prep unlike GRE Math.

3. d00d..u NEVER send ur scores to the universities urself. U request an ASR (additional score report) from ETS and THEY send the scores.

4. it takes around a month or month and half. i recieved my TOEFL scores in a month while my GRE scores reached after 40 days

cheers
SO can i send my scores based on the marks i get on the gre test ? Iam confused. plz elaborate this process. how much do i have to pay per university? also can i report first and then send other details like mark list etc directly from college without waiting for ets to confirm the reporting of scores to univ? also tell me if i should start chatting with a prof before i take the gre test? how much good will it do? Plz elaborate on the reporting score stuff and will it be a handi cap for me cos iam taking the test in Oct second week and am hoping to apply for fall 2006.

Spray thy wisdom Desiguru and Quint_essence

For me scoring 1500 in GRE easier than scoring above 99 % tile in CAT .............

Both exams have 1 thing in common ....read a lot !!!!!!!

GRE u shud be active reader ..ready to assimilate nuances of statements while in CAT u need to fast ..doesn't matter if u skip a line or too.............

GRE quant is just a sub set of CAT ........but even then practise GRE mocks

Yes! You need lot more luck and calmness at the exam hall for the CAT.
But i believe if u crack 1500+ then 99% is an extremely high probability.

I think the correlations are totally misguided

Friend of mine gave his GRE the very next day after the CAT as most people do, he ended up with a 1540/1600 and a 94 percentile in CAT2003 Retest.

He had pretty much concentrated more on the GRE coz he thought his chances of CAT success were limited. But still... comes across as a totally different ballgame.

Those who Quote, do so lacking in the capacity of original thought.

yes..for registering on their websites..u'll hafta write the scores urself. for application, plz indicate the scorecard AND send the official scores.
see..u have to apply online for the application and also send the relevant documents like official transcripts, application fee (either thru online payment or check drawn on a US bank), Statement of Purpose (either online or Offline) and GRE scores (through ETS)

depends on the university..see their website for more info. it can range from $30 to $ 75. remember that sometimes, internaional applicants (meaning ppl like us) hafta pay more than what has been mentioned on the site main page. so make sure u visit the international students section of every university u want to apply to.

u go ahead with apps..just make sure u give 3-4 weeks to ETS ppl for mailing ur score cards. GRE score posting is not ur concern.

like i said earlier, no harm in it. if the prof like u or ur work..its only gonna help in ur application process. and..unless u spam his inbox..its never gonna have a detrimenta impact on ur application.
