dead lines for US univs are usually in Jan-Feb(exceptions may b there).....so oct should not be a problem.....

sice u've booked ur exam in october..make sure that u have done all the university reasearch beforehand. because after the exam, time is literally gonna fly, with all the deadlines approaching.

some US universities do have deadlines in december ( i missed the Arizona State University deadline which was in dec for foreign applicants) otherwise, most colleges close up around 31st december or 1st jan (for the fall session)

the biggest headache is not just giving the exam, but choosing ur university. u might want to mail all the profs who are working in the area of ur interest and they will appreciate early action from you..not end-of-term mails asking about admissions.

any other questions..i'll be glad to answer

hey Qunit Essence,

Thanx a lot for ur suggestion. but r u saying that it is better to prepone the exam. There are also rumours that some univs deny them receiving ur score if u've reported them while taking the test. they expect u to send the score sheet copy to them along with the application and transcripts and stuuf. whats ur take on this? also how long does it take to receive the awa marks and the original score sheet from ETS?

ok..pointwise answers:

1. not necessarily prepone. just be aware of the universities that u intend to apply to before entering the exam centre..a cardinal mistake which i made.

2. these runours are trash. u get confirmatory message from ETS itself (in ur score card) on which universities have recieved ur score. rest assured, univ's arent gonna back out of accepting ur scores

3. d00d..u NEVER send ur scores to the universities urself. U request an ASR (additional score report) from ETS and THEY send the scores.

4. it takes around a month or month and half. i recieved my TOEFL scores in a month while my GRE scores reached after 40 days

cheers

Prof Dilemna - 16-04-2005, 10:23 AM

This is in responce to what you have said about contacting the prof's in the various universties before apping.U mean to say that I should contact the prof of the respective university where I want to do my Master's from.Would the Prof entertain me in this regard.Secondly, does it matter that the Prof is of the same college from where you have done your Bachelor's from in India.

yes..u should contact the profs from the university that u want to apply to. remember that ur candidature at the university is greatly improved if u r percieved as a good value addition to existing/new projects. so..its better if u can contact the profs who are working in ur own field.

there is no harm done in mailing those profs...specially if you feel that the prof is working in a similar field in a similar project as your final year project. i had mails expressing interest in my final year project when i had contacted those profs.

if the prof is from ur own college, then u can have either a very big advantage or a huge disadvantage..it depends on the prof's attitude about his peers at his old college. if their recommenations are accepted by him, i suppose u should have no problems in securing an admission

QuintE u GRE stud eh?
How much did you get? How much in CAT?
I want to accurately place you in the rungs of the whatever ladder.

Do you think there's a good correlation between the GRE and CAT scores?
