hey rsb....apologize if this is not the correct thread but since there has been so much of school discussion here i might as well go ahead...i recently gave the gmat and managed to bag 770...my acads are between decent and great and extra curricular is so-so....i am leaning towards a one year course....could you please help me identify the best options?....do you think i stand a chance for isb with my 5+ years of IT experience....when does the ISB 2010 batch commence? Are the admission rounds closed yet?...Also are there any good options for one year course in US? btw the detailed reasoning behind choosing IB over US schools made complete sense....

I believe ISB is the master of 1-year courses in India. IIM-A and IIM-B have also started their 1-year courses recently. I'm not sure if you are eligible, since they have a higher work-ex requirement. Please check this up.

770 is a great GMAT score. Your work-ex places you close to the ISB average. So I don't think it should be a problem. However, be sure to talk about your varied achievements. I believe ISB looks for a spark, if you can put your best foot forward, I'm sure you'll get through. The essays and application details, along with the interview play an important role in this regard.

ISB classes start in April. Admissions that began in 2008 have closed. Generally, they will open again around July 2009 and have two rounds.

I'm not aware of any great 1 year US course. However, in UK, the Cambridge and Oxford programs are, I believe, for 1 year. I hadn't really researched this avenue and hence can't shed more light - sorry !!

Hope this helps. ATB

Thanks rsb....i am leaning towards ISB primarily coz of the major advantages of cost and duration.....but what are the prospects of an ISB grad to get a job in a US firm??....(in case i wanna work in a US firm for a few years to gain more international experience)..Also the ISB site says - ISB does not offer an MBA degree....what does that mean and how is an ISB PGP different from a US school MBA (job-prospect-wise)...Thanks for all your guidance..

Have a look at the placement highlights to see the trends for opportunities outside India. Note, however, that 2008's results may not hold in 2009 due to the slowdown. However, I'm not sure I understand - Do you want to work with a MNC in India or geographically in the US ?

From what I've understood, ISB is not accredited by any government institution. ISB has clarified that because accredition brings a host of other issues (reservation, interference etc), they really don't care much about it. Since it's not accredited, it cannot give you a "MBA" degree. Also remember, "MBA" is just a moniker - IIM-A gives a diploma (if I'm not mistaken), JBIMS gives you a MMS and so on. However, you are right in saying that US universities give you an "MBA".

I was concerned about this too. So I contacted two types of people - ISB alumni and industry peers. Both said that ISB offers only a certificate indicating that you completed the course at ISB. This is taken by the industry as being at par with other degrees, diplomas etc. So, there wouldn't be any adverse impact from the job angle.

If you go to Manhattan Store (GMAT Strategy Guides & Online Resources | GMAT Store | ManhattanGMAT) and you click on the book, you can download part of it for free and 100% legit as PDF.
