Hi RSB,
Congratulations for your achievement!!
I have gone through your posts. You somewhere mentioned about preparing for the AWA through blogs. Thats really a new idea for preparing. But I am looking out for the basic format of the AWA,to just help start off with the initial preparation. Could you please give few suggestions from your experience as to how should the AWA be approached and framed?

Regards
Sarita

For the AWA, the final output should sound rational and coherent. They expect you to be logical in your analysis of the issue and of the argument. At the same time, the computer program is designed to pick out key phrases like Even though, Although, Firstly, Finally, Further etc. So use qualifiers and modifiers liberally to link up the sentences and paras

Try to work in the following guidelines:
1. 1st para - intro + you stand
2. 2nd para - reinforce your stand
3. Optional 3rd para to reinforce your stand
4. Optional 4th para to show what is lacking in the original argument or concede a point to the author
5. Conclusion

Do not take a moral or ethical/emotional stand in the essays. On MBA.com, you can find the list of questions. Try preparing for some of them.

Hi RSB,

Really great to know about your score and your admission into ISB !!!
Congratulations !!

Can you pls help me in my prep? I have my GMAT on the 7th of November and had a devastating experience. http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/gmat-a...10-q-49-v.html (A disappointing 610 ( Q- 49, V - 24) after a hardship of 2 months)

My only concern @ GMAT is my verbal preparation. Can you debrief sectionwise where you found some difficulties and how to improve on each of those sections. I need this because am getting ready to give my GMAT....

Thanks a lot ,RSB for providing the ways to approach the AWA essays!!

I guess this will help me start off with my basic preparation which I feel will gradually increase with time and convert a naive to a veteran!!

I was in Canada when I gave the test. I had access to most of the material out there. In Mumbai, I would try the Fort area (Sterling Book Depot perhaps) to try and obtain the materials. Unfortunately, I don't have any of GMAT materials with me in Mumbai (soft or hard copy).

For verbal, OG is the best book to improve your skills. Someone had suggested I use a grammar book like Wren and Martin, but I felt it was a little too advanced. You can check it out though. If you are middle-range in Verbal and want to aim higher, look at the Kaplan 800 book. It's got excellent theory and they explain how to approach each question type. If you finish the books, do them over and over till you can recognize each of the question types.

All you need for RC is any CAT coaching class material (Time, IMS etc). There's nothing to "learn" as such. To boost your vocab, look at Baron's SAT 1 book or something similar. Perhaps the high-frequency word list for the GRE is a good resource. LSAT isn't really required for CR. The OG would suffice in most cases + Kaplan 800 for complicated questions.

After the scoretop scandal, I strongly urge you to investigate in detail before taking material off the net.

Thanks for reply and get to know that u got admitted in ISB ... g8 news and happy to knew that u want to be in india.

I have one more Qs :I have gave my GMAT on 20th Nov and Verbal score is bad and quant was very good. I decided to re appear for GMAT around end of dec 08 . Should i join any coaching (IMS / Time /Or any other ) ?
I have done all OGs and Kaplan 800. May be i haven’t analyzed my mistake.

Or should i try out myself for verbal ?
Please advice.
