I am not a regular “poster” (don’t know how grammatically correct tht is ) in these forums, but I have read thru many GMAT experiences which helped me a lot. So, I decided to put my experience also..

Ok, the D-day was Sep, 24, 2008 (today).
Centre- Kochi
Time 9.30am

OK, lets start from the beginning…I resigned from my job 1 month ago, not for GMAT. But basically, I wanted a break. Then came the realization tht I shud do something….decided on GMAT. Don’t know why…lets say mayb cos I had enuf of CAT. Actually I wrote cat only once previously, tht is last years. I got 99%ile too…but fortunately or unfortunately, I didn’t get calls fr4om any institutes I applied…so, I went up a step…GMATland.

So, after the resignation, I applied for GMAT, not because of dates cos any date in one month was ok for me, but just to get the impetus to study…so, I came home..downloaded loads of resources from the net.

I’ll suggest www.esnips.com. U’ll get virtually everythin u need there. Books, I purchased Kaplan GMAT comprehensive program 2008. I was trying for some other Kaplan books recommended by Pagalguy members, but I couldn’t get. Hence I got this one. The book is not great. In the sense if u r a guy looking for theory. It has some 50 qns each in all sections for practice. No theory for quant. Questions are not gr8 either.

In terms of preparation, I am not systematic. If u ask me, I have just put 1 hour of studies everyday systematically..rest was basically useless… I didn’t finish any books, basically I jump from one book to another. No schedule. I found tht quant was easy for me. And the real killer was SC. So I did SC from various sources nothing comprehensive.

Took the first test from GMAC prep cd in the beginning. Took one Kaplan test too. Thn did arco test from cd, barrons and whatever tests I cud get in touch with.

And last week, I did two tests, scores 680 and 690.

And exam day, I reached thr at 7.45am. too early..not even the sweeper was thr… got in at 9.15. digital signature was taken. Palm vein print of both hands and a nice webcam pic J.. thn u r in…I hadn’t decided on the core reports. So basically just went with the flow. Decided to send scores to HEC, France, Cambridge, UK, ISB, India, Texas, US and Erasmus, Holland. I don’t know the criteria, but decided to go for these.

My advice, make a list of 5 univ to send scores beforehand. I don’t think its wise to let go of this and waste money later.

After all this AWA started. Did pretty well I guess, thn took my break..i took 5 and a half minutes..came bak..started crackin on my strong area..quant…I wasn’t very confident about my DS.. I was getting lots of C as answers for DS. If u guys are comfy with maths, make sure tht u take DS seriously cos tht’ll b the only problem area in quant for math-fiendly students. I finished quant with 12 min remaining

Thn took my break, came in 2 minutes, cos I wanted to finish the ordeal at the earliest. Started carefully on verbal…was goin ok…thn came the bomb shells something I hadn’t prepared much…3 qns of SC on punctuation. Tht is one area we don’t pay much attention to (atleast I didn’t)…I had 3qns of them…so practice those also,….got 4 passages..one was a bit tough..and my CR, it was difficult to get the right answer out of the last two options….so, practice tht also, finished verbal with about 4 min to spare.

After tht some 6 minutes to fill the questionnaire we have already filled in mba.com. and thn last. U’ll get the screen…u want to report scores??????

Clicked yes and the wait…it came in a second….

I was so relieved..took some time to settle down….and called everyone I cud think off and needed one ciggie to relax my nerves……

just go to esnips.com...search for gmat..you'll get lots o stuff...download all...n see which one is best for u....also..u'll get cd content uploaded there....search fo gmat cat tests...arco and barrons tests are cat..get thm...pretty accurate......all the best dude....

Hi am planning to give Gmat,can you please suggest me what is the best time to give it considering the Bschools admission time.

Hi Ravi ,
from what i know , July would be the Best time to Give GMAT , most of the B-schools application Deadline is in Oct or Nov . once i saw a thread in PG , that contains all the B-schools and their deadlines , u may search for that .
I have finalised on taking GMAT recently , hence i am writing on 19th , i hope i would be eligibile for applying to some of the Top 100 B-schools , can somebody confirm
