You HAVE to take a test ASAP.
and whatever you do, don't panic.
Download the GMATprep software and take the 2 practice tests. Post your scores here and we'll try to analyze your performance.
To be very honest, there is not a lot we can do to improve your performance in 3 weeks, but we can try to suggest the best strategy moving forward.
But please take the tests first.. you cannot postpone it any further..!!

Re: Low GMAT Scores?? Find Help here. - 25-10-2009, 04:48 PM

Hi All,

Did anybody solve 800score.com free gmat tests that are available on the internet? (these are 10 exe files, 5 for Math, 5 for verbal)

I awnt to know the difficulty level of these tests... My scores so far are:

Manhattan - 600
Kaplan1 - 550
Kaplan2 - 570
Kaplan 3 - 550
800Score 1 - 640
800Score 2 - 640

(I have kept GMATPrep for last week)

Please let me know how reliable above test scores are and what should I expect in my GMAT (just 16 days to go)

please help!!

my mistakes so far:
getting early wrong in verbal (3rd/5th etc) and 3 to 4 questions wrong in first 15.
maths is not an issue... getting around 48-50 in Kaplan tests (but 44-46 in 800score)

please suggest the strategy...

SOS...

yogesh,
Please take both your GMATprep exams asap to see where you stand with respect your preps.

You can delete the "practice test.xact" and "practice test.log" files for the two tests in the C:\Program Files\GMAT prep\exams folder. Alternately, you can reinstall the GMATprep software, delete the GMATprep folder in Program Files, and re-install the software. Doing either of these things will let you retake the 2 tests, and you will not see too many repeat questions. Trust me, it works. Dont save your tests, use them.

With just over 2 weeks left for your GMAT, stay away from all other mock tests. Just use the GMATprep exams and analyze your performance.

Re: Low GMAT Scores?? Find Help here. - 25-10-2009, 11:35 PM

hey...
I just gave my first GMATPrep today. And it...kinda sucked. Got a 620 (V-31,Q-44). In verbal, my accuracy in CR was below 50%.
All the prep I've done till now is go through the theory sections of Princeton Review's Cracking the GMAT. Then I gave their Warm Up test, and I did better at Math than Verbal. I couldn't complete Verbal. So I thought it was cos I was slow.
Since then, I haven't exactly studied much...just gone through MGMAT's flashcards (except for SC), gone through theory review in OG11. Made some flashcards for math formulas I don't remember. That's about it.
Then, I did Math Bin 3 from PR...was ok...started doing Math Bin 4...but barely did a few questions from there. Also done some questions from the net (MGMAT Challenge Prob of the Week, PlatinumGMAT questions,etc.)...very random.
I was actually getting pretty confused about what level of Math questions actually come on the GMAT. Like, how tough are they? Should I be revisiting my CAT books from last year?
So that's why I have GMATPrep today...cos I thought I should check out what the real thing is like. So I could get a glimpse of the level of questions.

I thought Math would be okish...but I never expected to be SLOW on it. I had to randomly guess from qs. no. 25...all the way to 37!!! I was really slow...and even on the 25 I did answer, I got 10 wrong, some of which I had guessed on...I'm thinking of doing all qs. from PR Math Bins. Where should I solve questions from AFTER PR?

In Verbal, I actually managed to finish a lil before time. Had some 7 mins left for last 3 qs...this was unexpected. And I thought it was going well...till I saw my score - 31. Very disappointing. CR sucked. What is the best source for CR practice??? Will be able to tell you what I was doing wrong in CR after I do further analysis of my test. SC accuracy was 70%. How bad is that? RC I was actually pretty good at. Again, a surprise to me. Mostly cos I'm a slow reader.

Anyway, to summarize...how tough is real GMAT Math? What sort of questions do you start seeing at 730-740+ levels??? Should I be hitting my CAT books again? After I finish PR questions, where should I continue practicing Math from???
What is the best source for CR practice???

If you want to answer any of my other questions, please, go ahead!!! Thanks a ton!

Thanks Ankur... I'll do that immediately... I was thinking of solving OGs again (finished 12th once and 10th 80% by now)... Do you think that will improve my score?
apart from OG I have finished Kaplan premier program and few coaching class material...

Hey yogesh!

First of all since your date of official exam is so close (15 days means 9th or 10th nov ) , I suggest u stop taking any of these crappy tests that supposedly claim to provide highly accurate scores! I didnt take these so cant comment!

As ankur rightly suggested tk gmat prep 2wice (with AWA and if possible in the same time slot in which u have the real deal)

Infact I would advise you to take one immediately(try to emulate the real atmosphere) and then decide your strategy for the next 15 days, which will be the most important days of ur prep!

Solve everything on computer and see to which area those 3-4 wrong of first 15 beloing and then work accordingly!

May the force be with u!

ATB!

Regards!

as you rightly said, your preparation has been "VERY RANDOM" at best..!! this won't do.. Start referring to standard materials for our preps. Official Guides for on should be your primary source of preparation material. I have never used PR or Platinum GMAT, but would suggest you just do the PR once to get a feel of the questions and start with ur OG. What ever you have done so far will get yo nowhere. Also, get OG10.

you must've been slow in Quants 'cos you haven't faced any DS questions earlier. DS is the game changer here. Forget PR, and start with OG. Most of the OG DS qns are simpe and perect for starters. Once you are done with those, start referring to the DS and PS threads here on PG.

If you finished the section with time on your hands and only managed to get a score of 31, then thats not a god sign. it means you are not spending enough time and dont know whether your answer is correct. You need a lot more practice in Verbal. Your performance in RC could've been better merely 'cos you didnt make it to the tough RCs during your tests. Besides, except for 1 RC the other 3 tend to be easy.

It's not very tough. u need a lot of practice though.
Hit your CAT books for theory and practice only for those topics mentioned in your OG quants theory. Don't go out of OG's scope.
For CR, you could look at OG material and maybe 1000CR.

wow! thanks a ton! didn't expect such a quick and detailed reply...it's been really helpful!
1. I'm going to finish all questions from PR first, and keep error log.
2. To attack CR, I think i'll do MGMAT's CR guide...and download the free LSAT test and do it's CR questions.
3. Def analyse why i got CR and SC qs wrong on my GMATPrep.
4. For Math, ummm...I guess I'm going to do lots of prac questions and review theory from relevant CAT books first. when I feel like I've gotten a lil better, I'll start with OG (i have 11 & 12th ed)

Does this seem like an ok plan??? The only change here might be the order in which I attack the sections. Eg. I might pick up only CR section for a few days - analyse what went wrong in GMATPrep, do all PR CR qs, then do MGMAT CR guide, and then do LSAT qs.

I bought the PR book, so I have access to arnd 4 of their CATs on the net...should I use these like, every weekend, to see if my scores are improving? As in, I'll keep attacking questions section wise, and for math maybe topic wise. How should I measure if I'm improving or not?

^ @gmatdelhi
sounds like a good plan.. start working on the OGs once you get done with your theory. you can always redo your OGs; it's not like your are going to remember all the questions and their right answers when u redo ur OG after a month or more.. get the Manahttan SC guide for SC. Get the OG10.
I have never taken any PR CATs, so cant comment on quality.. But its generally not advisable to take mocks this early into ur preps. u can take a couple after u finish ur OGs.
Please do some more reading online on some other international forums as well..no one thing works for everybody.. read about various peoples experiences and strategies and see what worked for them to figure out what would work best for you..
