Advice - GMAT 580! - 04-03-2008, 10:26 AM

Hi

I have attempted GMAT say 5 times till date from 2006 December[all scores between 560 - 580]. Each time with preparation, I have been able to score well on Quants, but bad on Verbal. Now, I want to apply to colleges like NUS and some in UK.

Please suggest advantages/ disadvantages of re-taking the GMAT. I dont want it to be a mad spree. Do the colleges look down if the GMAT has been taken 5 times...

Thanks

Hey HMC,

One question which you will be asked by all colleges is "Why is there no progress in your GMAT score inspite of attempting it so many times?" You will have to be ready with a good answer for this question. All the best to you.

Thanks,
Abhishek.

Hi Abhishek

Thanks for the reply. But, do you think it is advisable to re-take the GMAT assuming that adequate prep will be put in to ensure a better score than whats achieved till now.

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

Giving GMAT again depends upon how honest you are with yourself. If you can put in a concerted effort with lot of trial tests and if they show improvement , then you can give it another go. I think you will know in your heart whether you are gonna improve or not. If you are just trying to get lucky one day, forget it.

As Abhishek said, you need to be prepared for the questions being asked in your interviews.

I would like to say that everyone is not 680+ and cant be. Acceptance of the fact that this is your limit will do you good. There might be other things in your profile which you can highlight. Then there is the question of what you want to do and where you want to be etc etc.

Hi friends,

I'm also the one with similar fate.
Score: 580 [QA: 50, VA: 19, AWA:5.5] (Verbal got collapsed due to poor time management)
This was my first attempt. The school of my choice is the one with an average score of 590. So, confused about taking the test again!! Is scholarships based entirely on total score? Do I stand a chance?? Pls give some suggestions..
