I went to a consultancy and the guy suggested that i should start off my applications asap.. to be able to apply for the first round based on my profile. He said it does not matter even if i take the test in aug... but how can i decide on the colleges without a GMAT score?

Please help!!!
Hi PGite,
The best time to give gmat is June/July and you are not late. Its upto you to consider the colleges prior to GMAT but its always good to have some idea about colleges of your interest so that you can mention those colleges in your GMAT college list during exam.
Dont go by what consultants say since you will have time to write essay / profile for R1.

Hey Guys,

Am newbie to Pagalguy. Just thought i could get some help in choosing a good tutoring center for my GMAT prep coz its very difficult for me to crack this exam without classes.

Got some options here though
1. Sharpminds - Prof MUrtuza gadilwala
2. IMS - would be my last option ( i find it expensive )
3. Edstar - affiliated with WLC

Open for other options too. Hoping to hear from someone soon, coz i need to start preparation soon as i am planning to take my test arnd mid Oct '08.
Also if could get some info abt application deadlines for colleges in US.

will i be eligible to apply for the 1st round if i take the exam by mid oct'08.

Re: Phoren B-school 2009 aspirants - 21-06-2008, 01:08 PM

Hello,

This is my first post in this thread.

I am a Corporate Commercial Lawyer with 4.5 years of work experience in one of the top law firms in India. I did my LL.B from Symbiosis Law College with first class marks. I have also done LL.M in European Masters in Law and Economics from Germany and Italy on a 100% scholarship by the European Commission.

I am planning to take the GMAT next month. I am planning to 'career-switch' to Consulting /Corporate Strategy post MBA. I have INSEAD, London Business School, HEC Paris, ISB, RSM Erasmus, Mannheim, ESMT in mind.

As such what are my prospects in the above Schools? GMAT Score? Any other MBA schools I should be focussing?

Inputs/Advice/Opinions would be valuable.

Hello Anshul,
This is a wonderful effort you are putting to clear the decks for MBA abroad. Heartfelt appreciation. Keep the good work going!

@Everybody here: Thanks for all the questions answers...I learnt a lot

My case:
I have quite a unsual case.
I have many dimensions to my profile.

Social Entrepreneur:
I started off my endeavour to make a difference to where I belonged, a small town in interiors of AP. But I din't knew when I started that it would shape into a soical organisation. I realised on need basis that I need a brand and a company. Then I was only a 2nd year BE grad Student. For last four years I have brought about a great transoformation. Out of 90 rural engg. students I trained in various areas, 24 have already have earned a job from the same town(they have just passed out). They now help me in my activities. It is called Aakrithi Foundation.
I have been sometimes covered my media: Let me share its blog with kind permission of moderators: Aakrithi Foundation
My sessions are professionally designed and delivered by me and volunteers who are keen to contribute back.

IT: I by chance got into Cognizant and worked there for 8 months to realise I can be better at something else. It was my failure I couldn't stick there. Then, I joined Pro Soft Resources as Manager, Client Services as employee no: 3. I do a lot of Designing, culture building, program management in my role. I have got our first three customers in recent months.

MIB: I have admit from MIB(Masters in International business)+CFA course in London School of Business & Finance.
I paid 8 lacs towards it but UK VISA rejected.

Now questions:
1. Do I directly go for MBA? or go for MIB if I get VISA and some time later do MBA in life. My dream is to bring the world to India..I need the network which I feel only MBA can give

i) if yes which schools do u suggest? Given a chance who wouldn't vouch for a HARVARD or WHarton?

2. Does UK rejection ensure US rejection?<resaon for rejection by UK: my case was inconclusive and college din't confirm that i was their student after reapeated trails by High Commission to contact college>

3. Frankly speaking I'm bad at acads: just first class throughout but I have extremely good extracurrics, terrific work ex coz I have seen everything in an organisation right from day one, and above all commitment to community. I have created a self-sustainable social model for my flagship NGO

4. What career I should choose, I somehow love UNO, IMF, World Bank etc.

5. What will be basic core competency i project? IT/ Social entrepreneur or something else. But I like to be with people feel their problems and build sustainable models to avoid them

GMAT: I can't expect more than a 700(it would be a stretch)
Waiting for your kind responses
Funding: I can't go for a Harvard or Stanfy....I have a heart not a pocket

As far as I know your H1 goes into hibernation and as soon as you complete your MBA you can get your H1B reinstated ( after you get a job ) . You H1 clock of 6 yrs restarts at the point which you left off. You do not come under a new H1 quota .

hey mbabuster...
do u actually know anyone who had an H1., became a student, and then GOT his H1 back without being part of the regular H1 quota?
I have heard that u got to start all over, once u convert to a student visa .
do confirm if u can, as this is very relevant to me.
I currently hold an H1.

Guys,

Another aspirant for US schools. Profile -

GMAT 730
WE 5 Y by Fall 2009
Industry - IT
Exp - ERP Consulting - Delivery & BD.
Extra/ Commnity - Very Strong
Acads - Decent

Understandably MBA application takes lot more than these number. I am looking for General Management Programs & hope to get into Consulting / Strategic Planning Divisions post MBA.

My head is spinning with the myriad choices of the schools in US. Someone with similar backgroun ( I m sure there will be many) and similar Post-MBA goals , lets get in touch. Please share your target schools.

I have selected Darden & Duke but that's it. I need to added few more in Stretch & Safety category.
