And yes gud luck for the applctns. will join the league soon....
keep it up buddy way to go!!! Not to mention there are bigger achievers as u said,,,but that does'nt make u any less,,, no offenses meant to the Biggies...RESPECT.
work harder and the rest will be HISTORY....(never mind the incorrect context "will be HISTORY"...happens a few days before the exam U knw)

Hey abhi!

My 'thanks' was indeed for people like you.. And I dont consider any contribution trivial! And thanks for all the wishes

Now, sorry for not being able to post my GMAT experiences because of heave work loads but very briefly.. this is what i saw

1. Math was tougher than I expected but it was do-able. I know it's the most silliest of suggestions, but DO keep an eye on the time. Remember, an unattempted question harms your score more than a wrong question does.

2. Don't try to judge the difficult level of a question (to check whether u did the last one right or wrong). When you have a question in front of you, that is the most important question in your life. I sometimes found myself wasting time thinking about older questions. This is injurious.

3. Verbal is comparable to that of the OG. Just that you shouldn't lose hope and keep fighting even when you aren't sure about the last few questions.

4. Do not worry about the computer systems at the test center etc. They work fine and are in good shape. I kept wondering about stupid things on days leading to the test.

If there is something else you want me to talk about, just lemme know.

All the best!

Karan

Can you share your experience of the G-day, like the difficulty level of the questions you got in GMAT. Do you think it was pretty close to OG or you suggest reffering to some other specific source. Would appreciate if you ellaborate on the kinda RC's you got. I gather, these days RC has become more painful than SC.

Thanks in advance.

Hi nikdo!
Hello Noel!

Thanks for the wishes

I made a post regarding the difficult level of the test. But just to add to it, if you have ever been involved in any kind of sport esp athletics, coaches generally make you practice in conditions tougher than that actual match conditions. This is just to make sure that during the match, the athlete is able to perform at 120% of what he did while working with that extra load. Do you see the logic here? Does it make sense to you?

The RC length was varied. One was too long, the other were much shorter. However, I reckon that the shorter ones are harder. I followed Kaplan's strategy to do the verbal section and it definitely worked for me as I wasn't doing this well in verbal when I started off with my preps.

Like I said in my previous post, math was tougher. But still very very do-able. The only difference for me was, in the prac tests I used to complete the math section 20 mins in advance but on the actual GMAT I used around 70 mins. But that's still pretty decent.

SCs, I love 'em. The best thing is that you dont have to spend much time on them. The worst though, at times you dont know why a particular choice is correct. Overall, SC is somewhat like PS. If you do carefully, you can get most Qs correct. And the elimination method worked best for me. Just zero in on 2, or max 3 choices and see from there on.

Although no one asked me this, but I think this is critical. During the test, if you do not do well in a particular section, then use up atleast 7-8 minutes of the break to just relax and calm down. I seriously suggest that you stretch your body a bit, go to the washroom, wash your face and begin afresh. Do not let what happened in the previous section affect your next. That's history now. Keep this is mind. Never hurry into the test room. It won't pay - it just won't!

Although I am kindda sure that you guys are doing well with your preps, but just one final point..
As desis with good mathematical skills built up in ur genes, make sure you get nothing less than 50 everytime you take a mock test. Including Kaplan, Princeton, GMATPrep, Powerprep, etc.

Anything under 48 is seriously harmful. And anything under 45 is a crime. And take my word for it.

I hope I have answered all the queries.
Cheers!

Karan

Congrats for touching the magical figure of 700 karan and all the best for apping season.

As you said that Quant is tougher and OG does not pose the exact figure of actual GMAT maths, which book you suggest we should try to follow for quant to get almost the same level of questions ?

Also, in CR, I have heard that Bold faced questions are considered toughest, you might have got them in your verbal, right ? Do you have some of them for practice, of you can send that, it will be really nice.

Thanks!

Hi srikanth!

the scores you mention are in sync with what i know and see..
PS 50 cound mean a %ile of around 94-95. Although this might not sound cool by CAT standards, but it's very good on the gmat. Ofcourse you can aim higher and hit 52. Your score 49 means you are right on track with quant. Keep up the good work.

For SC, I did Kaplan Verbal Workout, OG11, Verbal OG, and SC1000. But I have heard that Manhattan SC is good. So you can definitely refer to it.

If you need SC1000, just PM me your email, I will sent it across. But mind you, it did not like some answers from SC1000. For newbies, SC1000 is a collection of 1000 Sentence Correction Questions. Similarly there is another doc called CR1000 too.

Hi Dopa,

I am trying to get the answers to your questions. Let me get back to you tomorrow.
If you want I can send you CR1000. It may have the question types you are looking for.

Hope this helps!
Ciao!!

Karan

Okay Dopa!
Lemme put it this way to you.. In every math test you take, you see that there is a certain percentage of trap questions. In the GMAT, these questions appear more frequently.
I do not have a particular source of material to help you prepare and nor do I think that such a material will help you a lot.
Aim for a perfect score - that's all I can say. However, if I find some reasonable material for you, I will let you know.

Just felt like sharing this bit too..
I got my official scores, the math and verbal are the same. The AWA score is 5.5, so that's a big relief. Since the AWA is very subjective, I wasn't sure what to expect. 5.someone is clearly more than i expected

Have a happy weekend!

Hi!

Oh you're right. This doesn't make much sense. Anyways, just forget about your percentile scores and worry about your sectional points.
Obviously percentile scores are bases on performance of other candidates (statistical data) who take the test so, you can't do much about it anyways.
Also, powerprep is an archaic software. Just do it for the question and the points - not the percentile scores.

Thanks

Karan

Re: GMAT takers JUL/AUG 2008 - 23-08-2008, 04:28 PM

Any quick reply to my query is really appreciated.

I have GMAT on this Monday (25th AUg). I am getting around 630 in all mock exams. (Q51, V23).

Can anyone let me know whether I can choose to send my scores to only one school on the exam day and if needed call later and choose the rest of the schools? Is it possible?

Please advice.

Thanks,
Viswanath
