Keep it up and do not let a great score or poor score wane your unflynching dedication. Every test contributes to the learning curve.

Mayank, thanks for the note of confidence man...I was down in the dumps for a while

Well, I thought the scores would start looking up a little after the MGCAT incident but alas! Took the first Kaplan CAT just a while ago and ended up with 640! And now, I am in real shite! Got a 52 in Q but ended up with a miserable 34 in V Any comments from your experience?

Mods, could we have a thread for junta to post their practice test scores and for others (who have taken the GMAT or otherwise) to comment? I know there is no great correlation between the two but it would help people who have just finished a test CAT and ended up with a ding score (like me :-D) to get feedback.

Re: GMAT takers JUL/AUG 2008 - 07-07-2008, 01:09 AM

hi puys

i hv been preparing for GMAT for last 5-6 weeks
started with giving Gmatprep test got 640 then brought kaplan premier prog for prep.
gave 3 tests of kaplan got scores of 580, 610, 620. my main focus is towards ISB so my target score is atleast 720+
my mock scores scared me but then got to know that kaplan tests r difficult and show score with offset of 100 .
also came to know princeton tests r more close to actual gmat so tried my hand with the free princeton test and disappoitment strcuk again got only 670. with just over 25 days left for the dday i need help guys, some guidance on how to improve.

verbal has been my main concern ( infact so far i hv prepared only for verbal) in first few tests i was not in control of the verbal section infact had to mark answers of last 5-6 questions without readin . time mngmt was poor. so pls help on stratergies for time mgmt.
as it is low scores do reflect low accuracy .. i get 12- 17 questions wrong in verbal.
so far i was preparing with OG 10 (pdf available on net) and am planning to bring OG 11 verbal review. What other book/s i should target and what other tests( which institute MG / Princeton or some other) should i target considering i have 25 days left.

pls pls pls suggest somethin asap

If you are not scoring the same high percentile in your Math or Verbal tests, my advice is to reschedule the test.

Hi Sartre,
Once again 640 in Kalpan is a commendable score. Kaplan's verbal is known to be a horror show. So 34 in Kaplan is no way bad. Keep the focus. Something tells me you are gonna do great []. BTW, how r u preparing for verbal?

Regards,
Mayank

Manhattan Online test (530),
Kaplan Diagnostics (570),
Kaplan 3 (520)
GMAT Prep1 (620) !!! scaring me

Pls advice me on study plan..for next one week.
Do I need take more tests or anlayse on whts goign wrong and concentrate on weak areas?

Quant:- In PS, I make lot of silly mistakes and DS accuracy sucks
Verbal :- RC accuracy varies a lot...i,e 50-88%.same with SC...CR accuracy is good.

Oh dude..wrote a big post yday giving you some pointers about the exam but some problem with my server for the post never reached PG I hope its not late . 5 more days to go.

ok..a quick summary of what i wrote yday.

Avoid all other exams except for GPrep. since you took only 1 Gprep, you can give 3 more tests .(Gprep2 and 2 more by reinstalling). Save the last test for july 12th. chill on july 13th.

Do your OG10,11 again in this week. That will take you a max of 2 days.

You know you do silly mistakes in quant. Just be cautious and with complete presence of mind in exam you can hit a 50 for sure. DS are no different to PS. If you are from engg background, this should not at all be a problem to you. But dont take this for granted. You just cant do any silly mistakes in the exam.

GMAT verbal is more on lines with OG verbal. so read all the explanations while you practice. if you are good at CR, then you should not face probs in RC too. RC is no different from a CR!! For SC revise all your sc notes so far and be clear with basics. Dont read anything new now. Revise if you have already done MAN SC.

If you are targetting at ISB, remember your should aim for 720+.

Do your AWA reading for a day or two. Go through the standard templates.

Take those remaining 3 Gprep simulating your exam conditions (same time, same breaks etc) and write them with maximum seriousness.

Pay more caution in your exam dude. Don't bother about individual sectional accuracies now. That is the only problem i can infer from your post. You should try to get down your overall mistakes in quant and verbal.

above all Keep your spirits high this week. Do not let anything deter your confidence.

Good Luck

Neo
