Re: GMAT takers JUL/AUG 2008 - 18-04-2008, 02:40 PM

Hi all, I plan to take gmat in july 2008 for spring or fall 2009 admissions, can anyone tell me the approximate time frame required for each process, like gmat- july 2008 finished, toefl- around October 2008, apply to b schools- nearly howmuch time required depending on the stages of application.

2 more things, I want to opt for international business, can someone tell me good b schools for that.

Also, I have not done any community service/ social activity, which is mostly asked by b schools. How do I go ahead with that and roughly what I should be doing, since after office I don’t get much time left with me. And wouldn’t there be a question that why the community activity has taken place only in 2008, before applying to b schools and not before it.
Would be thankful if someone could explain all that in detail. Regards- Radhika

For this part if you are serious abt apping in fall 09, u must give ur Gmat b4 july end/aug 2nd week since B schools apps already start by then. Toefl is no deal but finish it soon after ur Gmat..

I guess u must b knowing abt R1,R2,R3 (rounds) of apps..its always better to go for R1 if u r aiming for good schools and for fall..

So as u see that you have nearly 3 months time to write in July..thats a good time for prep..

And also check if the exam slots are available in July..One of my fren was very concerned abt this..

Good Luck

Neo

Re: GMAT takers JUL/AUG 2008 - 18-04-2008, 04:34 PM

Hi,

I am Harsha from bangalore, planning to take Gmat in Aug 2008 having failed miserably in cat 2007. Nice to see so much information in this thread.. But i couldnt find one info my interest. That is the cost involved in pursuing MBA abroad. If any one could answer the following questions i would be greatfull..

1. How much feasible it is to get scholarships.. and how do we go about them..?
2. What is the general expenditure you incur to finish the course.?( I know i can get this info from individual b school sites and it varies according to the b school popularity and others). I have some idea about this but it will be good if some one else throw some light on this.
3. How is the placement scenario after MBA generally and now considering the recession fears.
4.Suggest Some B schools which are decent and yet affordable.?

It would be great if some body answers these questions.. Forgive me if these are not meant to be here.. I am sure the answers for these questions will help many aspirants like me who are bothered about the expenditure involved and hence the risk they might be taking if they dont find the right job after betting on it.

Please add if i have missed out any more questions..

And i would like to get in touch with Gmat takers especially from bangalore or Hyderabad for Fall 2009..

Can someone suggest or provide any pointers? I am planning to take GMAT in Jul/2008. I guess 2-3 months of preparation time should be fine working on the key areas of improvement.

My background is as follows -

10th - 85%
12th - 74%
BE (Comp Science) - 70%
Work Exp - Close to 10 yrs
Sector - IT
Industry - Banking/Finance, Media/Entertainment, Logistics, Education
Overseas exp - more than 4 yrs

Can someone point me to the following (topmba and PG links would be fine too - if available)
1. OG 11, I have OG 10 though
2. Kaplan 800
3. Princeton review (latest edition)
4. Any other key material required to be attempted

Thanks in advance,

I downloaded OG11 from esinps and also got it from another source but i am not sure which one is correct

One starts withs 9.0 sentence correction and one starts with 7.0 Reading comprehension

I am not sure why none of them starts with 1.0..

In any case , can somebody guide me am I following the correct OG..

i'd like to add one more Qn to the above ones namely :
Some foreign B schools are really expensive which sometimes comes down to 35+ lakh indian rupees, so can we get a loan easily (from indian or overseas banks) for funding the whole fees in case we dont manage to get any scholarships?
