I needed a jatka to really start preparing and i got that around October.

So people if you are the lazy kinds trust me. Pick a date. It aint gonna happen till
you actually pick a date and pay out the cash. Thats when it pinches and studies
get serious.

As for the material

Material
--------
1. Prinston review (good but not comprehensive.. a good place to start)
2. OG 10 and 11 (between the two of them a HUGE question bank)
3. Manhattan for SC (gets all your concepts straight..a must do)
4. Spidey notes on SC.. great resource for the finer points
5. 1000 question pack (did only 40 %)

Practice tests and my scores with stage of prep
-----------------------------------------------
1. Gmat Prep Test 1 : 720 : first week of prep
2. Prinston Review test 1 : 690 (47Q/39V) : 18 oct
3. Kaplan Test 1 : 650 |
4. Kaplan Test 2 : 640 | Basically i did one
5. Kaplan Test 3 : 660 | every weekend
6. Kaplan Test 4 : 620 | -- this one was a shocker
7. Prinston Review test 2 : 710 (51Q/37V) : 18 dec
8. Prinston Review test 3 : 690 (51Q/34V) : 19 dec
9. Prinston Review test 4 : 680 (44Q/40V) : 21 dec (this one scared the SHIT out of me)

While i was preparing i never really looked on to these forums much
and definitely did not do any questions i found on the net. What the tests told me
continuously was that i sucked at SC. So i attacked that by doing sheer numbers.

Another thing i did (and this really helped) is maintain excel sheets containing
all my answers. This helped me in attacking the ones i had gotten wrong on a latter
date and also to figure out where i needed more study.

Ne thing else u need to know please ask...

ohh and i got 770 on the 2nd GMAT prep test. They say what u get on this is what u get on the exam.. guess they were right. (thankgod for that)
Hi Zor,need ur help on GMAT.... just decided to take the exam in Jan 2009. Please let me know if u have shortlisted some colleges.... i need some advise on that..... TCSunetra

Hi All,

I gave the GMAT this month. My score is 710 (PS 49, VA 38 ) AWA (4.0)

Acads
Xth 87%
XIIth 89%
BE 65%

Work Ex:
IT industry. Will complete 3 Yrs in Nov 08.

I am planning to apply to US B-Schools in the first cycle.
Which B-Schools will be appropriate for my score? Any realistic suggestions?
Will the low AWA score matter much?

Thanks
Amit

Hi Amit,

As far as I have read regarding this on PG, if your AWA is 4 or more, its gonna be fine. You have got excellent overall score which matters more. I think you can apply to all the B schools you want based on whatever criterions you chose but AWA of 4 is not going to be a road block as far as I know.

Plus you can try to compensate the AWA with your application and essays.

All the best for apping season!

Do you realise what a psychological boost it will be to go to college knowing you have $15000 in your bank account?? In best case scenario where you get tuition loan, that's 15k to blow over a period of 15months(i'm assuming summer intern will bring in some more dough)

When univ's quote total cost they just include tuition fee, books, room and food. Miscellaneous expenses vary from student to student and cannot be accounted for. Yet, you have to realise that a foreign MBA is more than just books and school experience. There will be a lot of wining and dining, socialising, things to experience and none of this comes free

First get in then worry about finances. Finances can also be worked out later. Nearly all top schools offer loans from banks that they've tied up with.

Get in first. Its not as easy as you think it is.

Re: Phoren B-school 2009 aspirants - 05-09-2008, 09:53 AM

Hi All,

I gave my GMAT 2 weeks back and got a very bad score of 620.
I was completely distraught as i prepared well and was performingly decently in my mocks.
I've come out of the disappoitment and decided that i would apply to B-schools with the same score as i do not want to write again
I would like u guys' frank opinion on whether i'll be able to get into top 20-30 colleges of US with some financial aid.

My profile:

GMAT: 620
Work Ex as of now: 3 yrs in IT+ 1 yr in Manufacturing co.
Academic record:Above average through out but nothing excellent. No other achievements.
Other achievements: 1)represented my state(AP) in national TT tournament at the sub-junior level. Also played at the district level at sub-junior level.
2)won prizes for TT at school level and local club level.
3)Actively participated in other sports at school level.
4)I was a NCC cadet at school for 2 yrs and have a "B" certificate.

Seeing my profile above do u guys feel i stand a chance of getting into decent college. What all colleges can i hope for getting into.
How to search for colleges as i'm getting confused searching through the net. Please also let me know how to gather info accurately.

I'll be really grateful if you all can help me out in this as this is really important for me.

Looking forward for your valuable suggestions.

Thnaks and Regards,
Pradeep
