Insead

ISB
HEC Paris
Oxford
Cambridge
National University of Singapore (NUS)
Nanyang Singapore
My guidelines for choosing a particular B-school are:
· be based in India/Europe/USA/Singapore
· be less than 18 months MBA program
· have good placement
· be recognized in India (in case of a non-Indian school) as I want to return back to India 1 year post MBA
· be a top ranked school
Please help me.

Thanks in advance
elec,

With 4 years of experience (and as an Indian) you must be able to demonstrate outstanding qualities in your application for INSEAD. If you are keen on INSEAD, then I would say wait and year or two and give it a strong shot, the school does not favor re-applicants kindly so "one shot is what you got."

Your choice of schools has a wide range in terms of their value proposition, you might want to think through a little more on where you want to put effort in applications. I prefer the "do a few, but do them really well" philosophy.

regards,
-n

Hi all
My profile is as mentioned below. I scored quite low on the GMAT.
I am targeting US B schools like - Kellogg, Fuqua, Chicago GSB, Darden (Virginia), Ross (Michigan). Do you think I should retake the GMAT to get a better score? I want to apply in the first round but if i retake the gmat I might miss the first round of a few univs? And should i target other univs which are more safe (suggestions are welcome)?

Question Re: Phoren B-school 2009 aspirants - 14-06-2008, 09:16 PM

Hi guys,

I am new to PG and need advice regd the applications to foriegn unis.I have booked a date in end of July for my GMAT... what i would like to know is the date too late for applying for 2009. I mean do i have to have a GMAT score before i consider which colleges i want to apply for?

I went to a consultancy and the guy suggested that i should start off my applications asap.. to be able to apply for the first round based on my profile. He said it does not matter even if i take the test in aug... but how can i decide on the colleges without a GMAT score?

Please help!!!

hi PGite,
Based on your profile and experience(which is not on higher side),I will say that its good for you if you can re-take gmat and score atleast 30-50 marks more than previous attempt provided that you are a bit confident that you can improve the score.Although,GMAT score is just one part of application and its not everything, but its true that this part is simplest to improve.Other than that,essay/profile/GPA etc do matter a lot.If an applicant has average gmat, than a high work exp can fill up that weakness in profile and since the competition which u will be having in US schools is with international applicants,so you need to have an edge over them.
Lets come to another part of your question which was about targetting safe universities.I will say that, you can try for 20-40 US univ with good chances but again it depends on where you want to get in at the end of day since MBA in US is big investment and you may not want to look urself into the mirror and question about this decision few years down the line (decision of going to say rank 20-40 school rather than say,top 5/10).Please note that I am not saying that a Bschool rank is everything to consider while deciding a school, but still everyone of us has some dream schools and in my opinion its better to chase your dreams!!
