i have recently joined this comm. and this is my first post...
i want to get the idea that how many months of prep is usually required for taking GMAT...
i also want to know that does it really matter when to take the test like it happens in GRE???
sorry if these questions hav already been answered before.....
generally speaking 2 months of regular prep should be sufficient but then you have to be regular and you shoud know what all has to be done.....
But the amount of prep required varies from person to person....some people may prepare for 15 days and hit 700+ and others may not hit that mark even after 2 months.....so you need to evaluate yourself that how much prep you may need.......but generally 2 months should be sufficient...

Though the time is not imp but, you need to give GMAT well before the school deadlines so that you have sufficient time for other part of the apps...and belive me other part of apps are more difficult

So let me know all this and we can proceed from there and make a strategy, i hope that you cross the 700 mark in the next attempt.....

Hi Ankush,
First of all, hearty congratulations on your excellent performance in GMAT...Urs is really a dream score, and I'm sure u'll be able to get into a B-Skool of ur choice...

My GMAT date is the 28th of Sept. So far, I have done Kaplan and OG. As far as tests are concerned, i have given 2 Princeton tests...630 and 730....This week onwards, i will give 3 tests a week, that is what I think....Is this alright according to you? Secondly, I have read/heard from people that the GMATPrep tests are pretty close to the original exam, and you get a very good idea about the actual by giving them...Is it true buddy? I think the strategy of reloading the cd once the 1st 2 tests are over is a good one, and I will certainly do that, considering the fact that they have a huge Question Bank....Please gimme any other tips which u think will be useful for me....
Last but not the least, does RED-BULL really enhance your performance? A friend of mine suggested this to me, but i laughed it off...Now that I read your posts, I think he made sense...

Please help me buddy...All the best with your apping

Thanks in advance

Hey thanks fr responding.I actually took up a course at the PRinceton Review....fr bout 7 weeks......dint quite study all throughout .My actual test was scheduled on the 23rd of August....started working seriously for 20 days before my test.i took the princeton review tests but never crossed a 600....but in the Gmatprep tests i scored a 680 nd a 640.I practised the OG11th edition,Manual guide.Did very few of the 1000sc nd CR.then took up the quant and verbal review by princeton review.Took up a few drills on the princeton review website.Tht's it. Well coming to my performance on the D day i messed up my quant only gt a 45......i wasnt able to manage time properly....gave lots of time to the 1st 10....The DS questions were really time consuming nd I was a lill weak in DS too.so ran out of time in the middle section. And so had to blindly tick a few questions.....verbal i scored a 34.....So thts my story...It would really helpful if u culd suggest somethng....targeting a score of 750.....thanksdiya.

hey,

R1 , R2 means Round 1 and Round 2 resp. I hope you know that for most of the US B schools you can submit applications in multiple rounds usually 3 , which we usually say R1, R2 and R3.

let me know in case of any other doubt

Thanks for your wishes dude!!

28th September is near and from your post it seems that u haven't given any of the powerprep and gmatprep tests.
I will advise you to give one of the GMATPrep tests this weekend. It is the most accurate measure of performance and is very close to actual GMAT....that will also help you know your weak areas and you can foucs on them after that.
you haven't given many tests till now, so r u comfortable in completing the test within the given time, if thats the case then no problems.
3 tests a week - i will not advise that, its more imp to focus on your weak areas and analze whatever tests you give. Analyze not only the wrong questions but also the right ones in order to knwo whatever you thought was correct or not. But if you are facing problems in cmpleting the test on time then try to give 2 tests per week now.
since your D Day is very near, i will not advise you to give any Kaplan tests now, thougfh they are very useful in improving the timings. Give only GMATprep and Powerprep tests and let me know the results. Princeton tests are not accurate in measuring the performance.

Red bull- Come on , no drink can enhance your performance...its only your hard work and confidence that will matter..okk. I took red bull so that i dont feel sleepy , it has caffeine ( i slept only for 4 hrs on the previous day) and glucose and also i wanted to have some drink in btw so why not have some glucose drink ..... Believe me red bull is not gonna help you in any way.....

hi uppasna,

thanks for the wishes!!

I will advise to wait for sometime before applying for forign B schools. They require work ex and also you need to be clear on many tings before applying which you will only be after you have some work ex. ofcourse , freshers can make it to B schools but then they need to have very clear golas, exemplary leadership shown somewhere or basically a WOW factor in the app...if you have something of that kind - go ahead and apply.
Else, wait for 1-2 years. Also if you are appearing for CAT 07 and you are serious, i will advise you to concentrate on that and dont think about GMAT right now. CAT in itself requires very hard work so concentrate there right now. All the best

Let me know in case of any other doubt....

Thanks very much for ur prompt reply...as advised by you, i will take 1 GMATPrep test this weekend...As far as completing the test on time is concerned, so far I have not faced a problem (touchwood)...I have managed to complete the sections within the stipulated time preiod, and that too without having to rush and guess the last few answers...So in that sense, i feel I am doing pretty alright...
I started with Princeton tests coz I felt that more an accurate idea of the score, i would get a feel of how to implement my strategies to ensure that I completed the paper in the given time period...Now that I have given 3 tests, and not faced a timing issue with any of them, i feel I am safe on that count, and will concentrate on the GMATPrep tests...
Will definitely let u know how I am faring...
