Gave my gmat prep test last week scored really less. 510.
All the DS questions were wrong in quant.
Please suggest ways to improve in this area. Doing Kap 800 and Kap premier at present.
All the sc were wrong in verbal.
Plzzz suggest the way to improve in this area. Doing manhattan sc.
also in general advice how should i proceed with my prep and test taking.
Feeling desperate and low after the test.
Siddhartha. | hmm, thats really a low score. And i think you havent practiced much....
before attempting any test, its important that you practice some material.
Try completig Kaplan premier book and solve questions without keepiing time in mind. When you start getting questions correctly then try to rush through them while keeping the time.
Key to DS and RC questions is concentration - thats the only way you can improve in these two section.
No need to feel low, just follow above things sincerely and you will see change in results.

Need some help with my prep.. have been preparing for a month now.. one more month to go.. I started with kaplan, finished it.. and then read manhattan SC.. then i realised i need a lot of practise and went with 1000 sc, 1000 cr.. finished half of both.. felt confident with accuracy, it was about 75% in both.. but for RC it was only 60 %... finished 70 % OG... (Again accuracy was 75 % in almost all sections)
took a powerprep1 and got 640.. felt bad .. but went ahead and took kaplan 1 and got only 550.. got really pizzed and felt all my efforts have gone a waste.. i dont know what to do..
My main weaknesss is TIME !!!!! I miss out atleast 2 last question in my tests.. I am not able to maintain time at all.. Whenever i take some time to do a question, i do it correctly.. but otherwise i find it difficult to do a question both quickly and correctly.. help me out with my time also..
And while doing OG questions, keep note of the time, you will certainly improve....
am kind of stuck at this point in my prep.. also need advice on which material to follow going forward.. Thanks.. . | try to keep time even when you do the pratcie test....how about OG?? did you start with OG??
If not, please start with OG...this is the best and most authentic book for GMATprep....you will certainly improve on your scores once you start with this book. Dont start with kaplan 800 until you are done with OG.
you cill certainly improve, just keep up your confidence and interest

Also try giving out a test and lets see how you perform in the test. I think it may be time now you should start with Kaplan 800 as well, if you are able to get around 710-720 in the test | Hi ankush
as u said i took the KAPLAN CD test -2 today not much of improvement though This time i was able to finish it on time.. RC were really tough my accuracy was lowest in that
here are my scores
kaplan CAT-2
Score - 590
quant- 28 correct 9 wrong scaled score- 42
Verbal- 22 correct 19 wrong scaled score - 29 SC accuracy was around 60% n CR more than that however RC i guess CD shows less than 40%
PS i have accuracy of more than 80% but DS of 60% Till now I have done
Kaplan premier
verbal Review- SC
No i have not yet started with Manhattan SC. n hey can u tell how make an error log.. I mean do i need to note down all ques that i did wrong. Right now I m justing making notes of idioms or points i miss in answering ques
M really at loss now i thought of at least crossing 600 but .. | | | | | | | |

Dear Ankush,
Congarts for you amazing performance in GMAT. I came across your thread & found out it is very helpful for beginers like me. I have few question on my mind & would be grateful if you kindly could answer that.
Q1) I can't understand whether I should enroll in GMAT coaching classes ( In Kolkata both KAPLAN & PRICETON REVEIW FRANCHISEE available) Or I should study the books that you have recomended in your thread on pagalguy.
Q2) Does the books recomended by you contains Study Material or only problems or their solution?
@3)I am pursuing C.A & Want to know whether the articled training of three & half years would be counted as work experience, as required for the US based B schools to get admitted?
Waiting for your reply.
ALL THE BEST.

Dear Ankush,
Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
I am a B.COm (Hons) graduate from Calcutta University & the articled training is full time but during my training I would be paid a minimum stipend. My work is to conduct Audit of Accounts & Financial Statements. Among th books you mention kindly tell me which one contents the study material since I beleive that at first I have to know the how to solve very well, then I can try problem book.
Last but not the least in this busy world at least I found a guy who voluntarily takes the responsibility of helping others. Keep it up man. ALL THE BEST. U ROCK.

Hi Raj,
1) In my opinion books recommended by me are more
helpful compared to joining any coaching institution.
Coaching is just a waste of time and money for GMAT.
If you do the books sincerely there is no reason you
can underperform in the test. Ultimately after
coaching also you will have to do books only
2) Books like Kaplan Premier program contains
strategies for each section before giving out the
problems. Do study those strategies carefully. You may
need to see them, again and again unitl you understand
them completely. Other boosk may cantain questions
only but then GMAT is all about questions and you can
only learn by practice. For an exam like GMAT there is
no theory.
3) I am not sure of this. Can you elaborate more on
your experience. Was it a full time experience?? If
its a full time paid experience then i think it can be
counted. Whats your undergraduate degree??

raj | Kaplan Premier Program is the book which contains the strategies. Do read all the strtgeies carefully
before proceeding with the questions in that book.
Also, for sentence correction - you can read Mnahattan Sentence coreection book. It has some good concepts. But first go through the Kaplan Material
Regarding your workex i think it should be counted as full time because you are devoting your time full time daily there. You can mail the admission commitee of some of teh schools and check with them to be sure about this thing.
Thanks,
