Talking Gmat 750 (q-50 V-42) - 07-08-2007, 01:56 PM

Hi Puys,

I gave my GMAT on the 2nd of August. Scored 750 (it's pretty much what i expected)..

My Preperation:

I prepared for about 2 months. I went thru the following books –
1. Official guide – 10th edition complete. (I'm one of those who thinks the 10th edition is better off than the 11th one)
2. Kaplan GMAT
3. Princeton Review
4. Manhattan SC – This is the bible for SC
5. OG Verbal Review.
6. 1000 series - as much as i could

I also regularly monitored my performance by giving sectional tests in the first month of my prep and full length mocks in the last 3 weeks before my G-Day.

Below are my scores in the mocks that i took-

Princeton online test - 680 (i think the algorithm is bad..so dont bother if u get a low score)
Kaplan paper test - 700 (unlike the Kaplan adaptive tests, this one is scoring)
PowerPrep 1 - 770
Powerprep 2 - 780
GMATPrep 1 - 740 (Q 50 V 39)
GMATPrep 2 - 760 (Q 50 V 43)

As you can see that the actual GMAT score was also around the same that i got in my GMAT Prep...so please keep these tests for the last days before the test (i took one 10 days before my exam and the other 2 days before th G-Day)..I scored heavily in Powerprep only coz some questions came from the OG bank..

As stressed by everyone else who has taken the GMAT..concentrate on OG...Its the closest to the real GMAT type of questions..

Added to this, i think another very important aspect of the GMAT prep is planning.. People in the early stages of the preperation..please plan a routine according to your strengths/weaknesses and stick to it no matter what happens..

My GMAT Experience:

My GMAT experience is something thats not going to help you guys a lot.. coz i fell sick just 10 days before my test and am still recuperating from the same... 90% of the people in my situation would have re-scheduled their exam.. But i wanted to get done with it when i was in the best form, even if my health was not too good...(actually i didn want to study more than what i did, and i would have postponed if i had got a slot after 10 days)

My GMAT exam was nothing short of a harrowing experience...its a very long story which is not beneficial to anyone..so lemme skip it. The only moment to rejoice was when i got to see the score..and it made me feel soo much better..

Only thing that i'd stress here is: make proper use of the breaks...taking your eyes off the monitor for even 5 min helps a lot...drink a glass of water...wash ur face..or just keep walking around in the center...trust me it helps to focus better in your next section..

So lemme end this already pretty long post for now...Please post to me in case you have got any specific queries..I'd be glad to help you guys out..

Finally, i'd like to thank all you puys for all the guidance, encouragemnt and the never-ending support. Hope to get similar inputs from you guys for my application process..

Cheers,
Akx.

Now, when we fought, you had that eye of the tiger, man; the edge! And now you gotta get it back, and the way to get it back is to go back to the beginning. You know what I mean?See that look in their eyes, Rock? You gotta get that look back, Rock. Eye of the tiger, man.

Thanks a lot for all your wishes Puys.. and all d best with you preparation..

Wish to see a lot more of you guys get scores in excess of 700..

My Current Status: The more i search about the Bschools the more confused i get!!! How i wish there was one fixed approach or answer to this problem...

Actually, i guess it'd be pretty useful for one and all if we create a new thread that puts up info about the schools/ programs/ applyin in general...
I guess there are many of us who are currently doing this process all by ourselves.. Teaming up would be a great idea i think...

Cheers,
Akx.
