Retaking the GMAT - 06-08-2007, 11:20 PM

Hi
I am thinking of retakin my GMAT.If I want to apply for the next year batch (Aug 200, what is the general deadline by which I should take the GMAT so that I can apply comfortably in all schools?
Also should I wait for 2 months before i take the next test? or go with the flow and get it over with asap?

Hi,

I understand from ur other posts that u scored 650 in GMAT recently.
But ur individual scores in quat & verbal r not available.
I feel u should retake exam in one months time by identifying & planning accordingly to ur weak areas. The score of 650 suggest that u must hav good scoring in atleast one of the sections.
I personally believe u hav good chances of selection to ISB , of course if u r targeting for this course; Based on ur profile pls note that last date for ISB is 15th september As dates r not available in Delhi u may consider option of taking Gmat at Allahabad centre where these r readily available besides keep on checking seat availbility for Delhi some may become available as many persons postpone their tests.
Further with 650 u can still apply to ISB with fair chance. Take others advice or U can also mail to ISB for their guidance. But will suggest u should retake Gmat.
In any case u r the best judge
All the Best

PS- pls excuse me i consider u from Delhi & feel around 7 th to 10 th Sept is best time for taking ur Gmat If u r considering ISB

Hi oxomiya,
There is no need to wait for 2 months if you are ready before that. Since this would be your second attempt, prepare well and take the exam when you are most comfortable.
As per the other question on deadlines . . . most schools have first round of deadlines in October (ISB has Sept 15) and second round in Dec (ISB-Nov 15). Depending upon your schedule, you are the best one to decide.

Re: Retaking the GMAT - 18-08-2007, 04:21 PM

Hi,
I have 4 years of work Ex and come in the common IT/ Male category.

But my GMAT score is diappointing 660 (48Q , 34 v)

Now I am in catch situation, because if I retake the GMAT, i will be missing the round 1 deadlines for ISB and many other schools also

So the difficult scenario is R2 or apply with the same score,

I feel that with one more month of prep my score can reach 720.

Any suggestions / points by which I can evaluate are welcome

Pats

Hey Pats,

It is really a catch. As I think, you can keep these things in mind before taking any decision.

1. Do you have anything exceptional in your profile as to compensate for 660 GMAT? If not, with present score you have a strong competition wrt. your demographics and Indian Techies are anyways expected to cross the 700 mark.
2. Do you think a month of preparation would help you score 710+? If yes, take GMAT in a month's time. If you can take GMATby say 10th Sept, speak with ISB if they would accept your application for round 1

I personally think one should apply with the best application. Round 1 and round 2 will not make substantial difference but round 3 will.

Re: Retaking the GMAT - 26-08-2007, 06:44 PM

Hello everyone, I understand the agony and frustration due to a low GMAT score.

1st attempt (July 07) - 670 (M-50, V-31)
2nd attempt (few days back) - 760 (M-51, V-41)

Each person will have his own reasons for retaking GMAT. But I think you should consider a few factors.
1. Is your GMAT score close to your Gmat Prep test scores? In my case, I had scored 730 & 720 in GmatPrep tests.
2. Regarding the timing of your second attempt: Be honest with yourself regarding your preparation. We have a tendency to undermine our efforts if we dont get satisfactory results. After all, no one likes to think.."Maine bahut padhai kiya, phir bhi marks nahi aaya" . I was pretty sure that although I had prepared enough for my first attempt, I still got a low score. Thats why I decided to re-take the exam within a month.
3. In any case, dont re-take the gmat if you just "wish" to get a better score. Only appear again if you "expect" to score atleast 30-40 points more.

Re: Retaking the GMAT - 30-08-2007, 06:13 PM

Hi Aditya,

Last week I got 640 (M47,V31) and I want to retake GMAT.
Can you please guide me how should I go about the prepration. I was getting around 600 in kaplan test and 670 in Princeton Test.. still I got 640 on the test day.

How should I analyze my situation.
Can you give some tips and plan to get better score.

Regards,
Divya
