Answer - E)
Catch is: who are trying to address the logically prior issue . it means easo of use, user-friendliness is nice to have but there is logically a reason prior to consider all this and it's E..."DO i really need'em at first place?"
OA Please...

sales computers aimed at faltering personal computers, implies campaign is taken up to improve the sales by emphasising on ease of use.
This already says .. market is thriving.
what can be the reason, potential buyers call this irrelevent,
by addressing to prior issue
'currently available models are user-friendly enough to suit them'
IMO C.
In fact i eliminated E in the first glance, because it is talking about many sensible uses and expense of buying one. pontial buyers in passage shows they are capable of buying one....
pls correct if im wrong.
whats the OA pls.

Appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix) is potentially fatal; consequently, patients with symptoms strongly suggesting appendicitis almost have their appendix removed. The appropriate surgery is low-risk but performed unnecessarily in about 20 percent of all cases. A newly developed internal scan for appendicitis is highly accurate, producing two misdiagnoses for every 98 correct diagnoses. Clearly, using this test, doctors can largely avoid unnecessary removals of the appendix without, however, performing any fewer necessary ones than before, since
A. the patients who are correctly diagnosed with this test as not having appendicitis invariably have medical conditions that are much less serious than appendicitis
This diagnosis doesnot say anything abt correct diagnosis.
This doesnot say whether doctors have actually reduced fault surgeries.
B. the misdiagnoses produced by this test are always instances of attributing appendicitis to someone who does not, in fact, have it
this diagnosis doesnot say anything abt correct diagnosis.
C. all of the patients who are diagnosed with this test as having appendicitis do, in fact, have appendicitis
we need this information to draw the conclusion in the passage.
< Answer>
D. every patient who is diagnosed with this test as having appendicitis has more than one of the symptoms generally associated with appendicitis
doesnot confirm appendix
E. the only patients who are misdiagnosed using this test are patients who lack one or more of the symptoms that are generally associated with appendicitis
no info abt correct diagnosis
|
what follows since is a premise.
we need a premise that says, yes doctors have reduced the number of unnecessary surgeries.
That can only be said when all those who are diagnosed, do in fact have appendix.
So C is the ans.

ur right i guess... even i would go for C instead of E... E shows that users are concerne with cost, whereas as u rightly pointed out, they are the potential buyers...can someone let us know the source of this qs if the real ans is E??

Re: GMAT Critical Reasoning Discussions -

Hi Puys,
Please solve the following and provide explanations.
1.Free public education is the best form of education there is. Therefore, we must fight to ensure its continued existence; that is, we must be ready to defend the principle of equality of educational opportunity. Because this principle is we worth defending, it is clear that free public education is better than any other form of education.
Which one of the following illustrates the same weak reasoning as found in the passage?
(A) I love music, and that’s why I listen to it constantly. I have my stereo or radio on every waking minute. Since I play music all the time, I must really love it.
(B) Books are my most valuable possessions. My books are like my friends—each pleases me in different ways. Just as I would give up everything to save my friends, so too with my books.
(C) I would much rather be poor and respected than be rich and despised. To have the respect of others is far more valuable than to have millions of dollars.
(D) I have never been betrayed by any of my friends. They have been true to me through good times and bad. Therefore I will never betray any of my friends.
(E) Because every plant I have ever seen has green leaves, I have concluded that all plants must have green leaves. This looks like a plant but it does not have green leaves, so it cannot be a plant.
OA: A
2.If Country X does not intervene militarily in Country Y, then the whole region will definitely fall under enemy influence.
It most logically follows from the statement above that, if Country X does intervene militarily in Country Y, then the whole region
(A) Will definitely fall under enemy influence
(B) Will probably fall under enemy influence
(C) Will probably not fall under enemy influence
(D) Will definitely not fall under enemy influence
(E) May or may not fall under enemy influence
OA: E. Please explain why C can't be the answer

For #1..
notice the highlighted section to understand the basic similarity.. it starts and ends with the same statement/message..
Free public education is the best form of education there is == free public education is better than any other form of education
both mean one and the same.. better than any other is same as best..
I love music == I must really love it.
again both mean one and the same.. love music is same as really love music..
For#2..
Notice the word highlighted in red below..
that single word changes the meaning implied and thus the most appropriate option.. "probably not" is not same as "may or may not".. so I believe OA is correct
hope this helps..
