(B) modeled the face of the statue after that of his mother and the body after that of his wife
(C) modeled the face of the statue like his mother and the body like his wife
(D) made the face of the statue after his mother and the body after his wife (E) made the face of the statue look like his mother and the body look like his wife |
The answer is Option(B) ....
We can rule out Options(C) (D) and (E) because the terms being compared are not correct . What's left is Option (A) and (B) .
Both the phrases Modeled like and Modeled after is correct ....but they imply different things
X modeled like Y means X has been designed or made in one particular manner and Y also has been designed in a similar fashion .
X modeled after Y means that Y is the base and X hasbeen inspired by Y or the design of X has its inspiration drawn from Y .
Hence when we say "modeled the face of the statue like his mother’s " we are actually saying that the face of the statue was modeled just similar to the way his mother's face was modeled which is incorrect .
So Option (B) , "modeled the face of the statue after that of his mother and the body after that of his wife . " actually tells that the face of the statue has drawn its inspiration from that of his mother and is correct .
