Strategies for Sentence Correction? - 04-01-2007, 10:00 AM

Hi Gurus,

Can someone please guide me on handling the Verbal section on the GMAT ? Especially the Sentence correction questions.

1. What is the best way to prepare for the Sentence Correction problems ??
I memorised the Kaplan Idiom list, have read their Verbal basics about 2-3 times. Yet my accuracy rate is just about 75% on my practice tests. Have tried over 300 SC questions, so the sample is a pretty good representation of my skills..

What are the steps I can take to improve my Sentence correction skills ?
Any tips please

Hold on aim dude...... Did you visit the thread by Subho Kant?? Kindly do that, he has given all the basic, which you will require for Sentence Correction, it may be CAT or it may be GMAT. Now I belvie these basics will not change. And the kind of probelms discussed here look like GMAT problems and not CAT.

Well, if MOD's allow, we can havea seperate thread for GMAT. I will participate too

Thanks for pointing me to these posts. Well, I had come across this particular thread, but I was looking for something more authentic.

In case you didn't know, the creator of the thread has picked word-to-word from Kaplan Verbal Workbook (Page 293- Appendix 1- Grammar Reference Guide). He contributed by replacing "GMAT" with "CAT".

Can you please point me to some other resources on the net.. where people have discussed some real strategies to tackle GMAT SC questions. I took the GMAT and the options are very close... and the ticking clock leaves you completely baffled !!

Thanks

thats a show stopper alpha :grab:

good grace i never checked those forums

OK NOW LETS GET BACK TO THE TOPIC.

REAL STRATS that i use

-READ all options given no matter what since SC unlike CR has better and better options available.

- dont read option A. that saves your time.
-most notorious (& GMAT fav. ) options that are almost always wrong are 'basing on'& 'being'

dear alpha victor,

i could have provided few more tips but my cell phone doesnt allow me to write long post. :(

coming to your query-

by solving 300 SC i m sure u must hv reached to a position where u make some conclusions & build ur own strat

try to do that.
also dont just practise the items, try to understand why they r wrong /right
& then start thinking the way explanations go.
