Hi Keya,
This is my first post.Im a silent spectator of ur thread. Read all your postings. You are doing a wonderful job. From the posts and obviously from ur scor,i can see that ur analtical skills are excellent.ok..coming to the point.
I took my gmat and got 680(verbal - 35, quantz-47)
My awa score is very bad 4.0
work ex - 2.5yrs currently ,avg-good in IT.
extra curri - did a lot in college..not much during work
awaiting toefl score

Im totally confused now.I was expecting around 720 in gmat and 4.5 - 5 in awa.
I wish to get into top 25 school.
my dream school is stern and i will not be able to get it with this score.
duke is my current choice and i dont want to go below that.
will i be able to fech a seat,or do i have to take gmat again.
please put ur comments on this.
Ready to give more info if needed.

Regards,
Senthil.

Here are my 2 cents...you can still wait for keya's answer
So before anyone can tell you why you got a bad score...you will have to be a bit more specific. Why did you think you wud get a 720?? which tests did u take? And second thing, its impossible for anyone to actually tell you if you can get a seat at whichever MBA school you want to get into.

keeping aside all your fears, why not target the problem a t hand. You have 47 in quants. I think your quant is gud and prolly u r makin silly mistakes and not learning from them like all of us did at some point of time. And your verbal seems to be not at the level you r dreaming of. I would recommend you to try and follow the techniques which keya/me have followed. Cuz i followed keya and got 770 (same score). You can actually look up my blog for a step by step instruction to prepare ur plans and some techniques which I hav devised while teaching students for their MBA.

Hard work will certainly pay. theres no magic wand tho'

I started hyperventillating as soon as I saw my score... God Bless the Pearson co-ordinator who came up and advised me to click on 'End Exam'!!!

I'd like to thank everyone at PGuy for their support while I was going through my hysterics over my Kaplan scores. Your support helped me beat my long term nemesis....Lady Panic.

A lot of people have already posted their detailed GMAT experiences here, so I don't know whether another 'detailed GMAT journey' will be of any use or not to the people here. Still, if you'd like me to put in my two cents, I'll write out a post with all the minute details... just let me know.

Thanks again

There are enough experiences on GMAT preparation per se. I would like to give some suggestions on what to do 1 hour before the exam.
First thing you need to do is keep the books aside and don't do last minute cramming. This is not your board examination and cramming at last minute will only tire your mind. You need to be fresh before the examination.
Second and the most important thing is to relax. Best way to do this is to talk to the fellow test-taker sittting beside you while you are waiting for your turn. Believe me this has a very soothing effect.
A few people have asked me what to take to the test centre apart from the GMAT appointment etc. I say if you are smart types like me then you do not need to bring anything, as you can find a lot of assortments to nibble upon in the common area. I had 1/2 Mars + 1 Lindt + few cookies. Use shared resources - you have 2 breaks in between and everyone will have their breaks at different timings.
For teh more cuatious kinds I suggest bring aong some bar like Perk, which is not sticky or very sweet like Mars and some energy drink if you wish.
That's it folks.
All the Best!!!

For the record I scored 740, with 22 days prep and my english is very average.

Re: Cracked it!!!!!! 770 Q50 V46 - 21-03-2008, 06:33 PM

keya/mucool,

I completed the KAPLAN Premier program today and took the full length paper based test given in the book...just managed to complete it somehow in time.
My scores are :
Verbal- 35 (76 percentile)--struggled to finish it and had to guess the answers to last 5 questions
Math - 52 (99 percentile)--finished the section in 40 mins
Overall : 660 (90 percentile)

RC - got 6 wrong
CR - got 3 wrong
SC - got 3 wrong

Basically i messed up the last few questions at the end in verbal just because of time pressure. Also few SC and RC questions in the beginning took a lot of my time.

guys pls. do suggest what i need to do to improve my accuracy and timing in verbal section.

Thanks alot.
