Help!! Kaplan and Actual GMAT score comparisons

Hi All,

I'm due to give my GMAT on the 2nd of August, and my Kaplan scores are scaring me witless.

A few days ago, while browsing the net I had come accross a site in which people had posted their actual GMAT scores vis a vis their scores from all their practice tests, but for the life of me, I can't remember the name. Does anyone have any idea which site it is??

Please help, I'm going ballistic!!!

Keya,

Do not worry too much. You can add 80-100 to your Kaplan score to get an estimate of your score at the real GMAT.

Thanks for replying!! I have given three Kaplan CATs so far, and my scores are:

CAT 1 670 --- Q50 V36
CAT 2 680 --- Q50 V37
CAT 3 640 --- Q46 V34

The third one has me in a major depression.

The results of the third are puzzling too... In quant, i did fewer questions wrong as compared to the second one (second 31 correct, third 32 correct) and also, in the third, the majority of the incorrect ones were in the 30s range, as opposed to the second one, where I got the majority wrong in the 20s range. According to the way the CAT is supposed to be scored, I ought to have got more in the third CAT quant, than I did in the second.

I really don't know what to make of it. What's your opinion on this??

And calling all other PGuys and PGals... opinions please!!!!

hey keya,

let me tell u one thing..u r going to just blast off the GMAT.

680 is awesome in Kaplan. my take is ur GMAT is going to >770..ATB

as for ur second query, see if you get too many wrong in the end, then also it is very problematic. ur CAT logic is fine, but in GMAT it is a heavier penalty to get too many questions wrong in the end. GMAT thinks that you got them wrong coz u panicked or something. be calm, use 75 minutes each and i am sure u will get a good score.

God Bless you for the morale boost. My opinion of myself has just risen from slime-of-the-earth to creepy-crawly-on-the-earth. Big improvement!!

And since you've been so kind as to analyse my second point, I'm going to go into a little more detail here, about which questions I got wrong in the quants for the two Kaplan CATs
1. Second Kaplan CAT
Ques 2 ------ DS
Ques 17 ------ PS
Ques 26 ------ DS
Ques 27 ------ PS
Ques 28 ------ DS
Ques 30 ------ PS
Your 'panic' theory is spot on here, because I did panic.. I thought I wouldn't be able to get the section finished.

2. Third Kaplan CAT
Ques 6 ------ DS
Ques 15 ------ PS
Ques 34 ------ PS
Ques 35 ------ DS
Ques 36 ------ PS
Yes, here I got all of them wrong in a row...

I'm also concerned about my verbal scores, because I haven't been able to cross 40 in Kaplan even once. And this is surprising because I wasn't so bad on the OG 11. I've been quite systematic about it, and have plotted my accuracy curves. My accuracy rate on the OG questions was about 92% RC, 95% CR, 90% SC.

Are these scores too low to go past the 40 barrier in the verbal part of the GMAT?? Again, all those who have already given the GMAT... any opinions on this??
To answer your question Amit, I'm giving the GMAT on the 2nd of August from Delhi. I have hardly any time left!!

see, this was the big probelm, 3 ques wrong in the last 4. dont let that happen in the GMAT.

see, i am the wrong perosn to comment on how to improve verbal

. you are aiming a 40, my aim was 35 and i finished on 34.

Hey All,

I just gave my fourth Kaplan CAT, and got 650, Q42 V37.

That puts my Kaplan scores in 660+- 20 range. I have no idea how good or bad this is, apart from the fact that I seem to be consistently mediocre.

Any opinions anyone? It would also really help if all those people who are giving Kaplan CATs could just put their scores here.

I'll compile a 'score sheet' and keep that updated on this thread. It ought to help all those people who get psyched out by Kaplan to know how others are faring.

Hi,

been following this thread for sometime now... Well, Keya if you are 660+- 20 at Kaplan, I am willing to put a trillion dollar bet (virtual bet, dont have that kind of many

....)

My D-day is 26th September. & my kaplan scores as of now are
Kaplan 1 :- 600

Kaplan2 :- 610

But I am sure to breach 700 marks by distance as I have 2 months left. Well had I bee in your range I would have score 730-750 in the GMAT.

It is no pep talk & I am serious... your score is gr8... Just be cool & confident .... u will surely do well.

I'm planning to give my GMAT Prep CD CATs from tomorrow, and I'll keep everyone updated as I go.

I believe Anjinsan is giving the GMAT on Monday... here's wishing him all the best. I hope he posts his GMATPrep scores here too, so I can see how he's doing.
