Hie Rohit,

Please continue at the BPO Discussion thread, rightly pointed out by Harsh. Its better you discuss the same there, in the Career Discussion section than in GMAT Section.

my test slot was on the 29th of nov , at 1700 - 2100 hours at prometric kolkata .
and some construction work was going on at a nearby site where heavy machinery is cranked up at 1900 hours , hence the chaps at prometric called me up and told me to come early and start by about 4 . i even wore the "ear muffs" , they are great and i would advise anybody who has a problem concentrating in a noisy environment to wear them .

awa:

pretty regulation stuff, started of with an analysis of an arguement followed by issue and wrote a couple of trite essays based on some plagiarized templates . wasnt really bothered much as i had scored a 5.5 when i had first appeared for my gmat. hence ended up writing some really long essays , which werent even edited for typos , (hope i at least get a 5 so it doesnt look too bad).

break: splashed water on the face, it has become quite a popular thing to do and let out a bellow in the washroom to get my adrenalin pumping and reminded myself that the real test starts now ....
it sort of worked in removing a sort of complacency which had set in due to the awa's

math:
math in short was ridiculously easy , in fact it was so easy that i was left wondering that am i doing anything right ,(probably they were experimental questions ).
math continued to be easy with 1 probab , 2 per/comb and lots of inequations and statistics , do brush up on stats .
finished with about 15-20 mins to spare .

traded in my scratch paper for a new one , made a grid for verbal got fresh pencils etc and went for my break .

consumed a red bull , (good stuff) , and a chocolate which i shared with the security guard .... more splashing of water and i was ready for the main section.

verbal:

started of with a shocker of an sc , spent about 4-5 mins until the picture became clearer. but a got a couple of sitters after that , so that helped to bring my timing back to normal .
4-6, 7-10 rc , pretty regualtion stuff i guess ,

got a boldfaced question really early on i thing sometime around 20th or so, the only one by the way, and it was really big , and i mean big. luckily the second statement was a conclusion and it made the choice of answer a lot quicker .

everything went fine till about the 37th question, when i had about 6 -7 mins left , pretty good pacing till then , but i got damn excited that i was doing well and sort of switched off , just switched off and lost quite a bit of time didnt help that it a tough and lengthy cr , followed by one of those 4 line sc's where everything was underlined . so had about 3 questions with about 60 secs left . so instinct in one of the sc's and blind guessing on 2 cr's ended the verbal.

finished the survey , filled it out properly , and was ready to see me score was expecting a 51 in math and about late 30's or 40's in verbal about 730 - 740 so was pleasantly surprised to see 770 , went mad , let out a stifled yelp and punched my fist, ( as is the norm , hehehe) and ran out to take my score report .................

Need information regarding changes in GMAT since Jan-2006 - 08-02-2006, 09:56 PM

Hi all,

I am Mangesh from Mumbai and I have joined PG recently.

I need some help regarding changes in GMAT since Jan-2006.

Recently I came to know that some changes have been made in the body taking GMAT (I guess its no longer with ETS and now Pearson VUE is controlling it).

Please let me know what is the exact impact of this change.

I understand that they have kept the pattern and structuring the same as before and no change is declared as such.

But what I want to ask here is, do we need to refer any new material now on ??

To be specific, I got the OG 10, kaplan workouts which are older (published in 2005 or before) and they mention the good old strategies stating them as "they are the way ETS thinks". So will the same strategies be fine to study now as well ??

Please enlighten me.

Thanks in advance.....

Mangesh.

Re: help needed! - 10-02-2006, 12:24 AM

Hi,
I am also a engg graduate of 2005 batch and planning to apply in fall 2007. I am planning to give GMAT in July this year.
Regarding reccos...I'll be arranging two from my employer and remaining one from my college. I think reccos shud be a mix of academic and professional persons. The best person to obtain a recco from college is your guide as he is the person who has seen you closely enough while working on a project.
Can someone pls guide me regarding the preparation of GMAT.

Thanks

Hey guys,

I took the gmat on february 1st, 2006 in Caracas, Venezuela. I got 690, but my scaled scores were 50 Q and 34 V, just as the scaled scores of Nucliomaniac, but he got 700. Does anyone knows why there is a difference ? . I have made some research on the web ( that was how I found your forum ) and there are other people with scaled scores of 50 Q and 34 V that have gotten 700, nobody but me has gotten 690. Please any coments you got will be of helpful. I have written many times to gmac and pearson but they have not given an answer.

( 50 Q, 34 V) 690??? Why?? It should be 700

Hi Jose,

I know how it feels.I got a Q49 and a V38 to get a 700 while there was someone who took it just a couple of weeks ago befor me (Parag Bhadra) with identical splits but a 710. I even had seen a couple of people (on scoretop.com) with Q49 and V36 and 700.

I have never been able to understand the logic behind it. But I think its futile to pursue it with GMAC unless you want to satisfy your curiosity.

Arun

i can understand your concern, coz my scaled score was 10 points below what was expected based on my raw score. but the point is, even if you get the same raw score as another person, you may still not get the same scaled score as him becoz of the scoring logic. it has happend to quite a few people on this forum that they`ve got a differece of 10 points even with the same raw score...refer to a thread titled "770!!!" on this forum.

it is quite unlikely that the prometirc or pearson or gmac or whoever guys will ever respond to you explaining their scoring logic or algorithm, so dont be expecting anything to happen on that front. the scoring algorithm of gmat is widely discussed on many sites, you might wanna search and read some more on it.

in fact, the scoring sheet, which you can find on a thread entitled "The countdown to mba" here, has some overlapping regions. that is, it mentions that a raw score of 81-84 will get you a 690 and a raw score of 82-86 will get you a 700...so there`s an overlap. do refer to that table...im not sure how acurate it is though. i think besides the raw scores, your scaled score might also depend on which questions you got right and/or wrong. so a person with the same raw score as you might have a different pattern of errors, which got him 10 points more than you.

Approvals and celebrations will rarely surround your inner decisions and choices to follow Personal Truth. You will be challenged and taunted: “Who do you think you are, anyways?” And, indeed, through your choices and decisions, that is precisely the question you are answering–to yourself.
