Re: GMAT Query Centre - 02-08-2007, 04:45 AM

Hey Guys,

I am planning to take GMAT in another 20 days. I never thought I could be so bad in english till I started studying for this exam !!!

In verbal, though I have managed to considerably improve my accuracy in CR & SC , RC is giving a bad time. I have already practised OG11 and Manhattan and am currently reading Kaplan verbal. The problem is unlike in the case of SC & CR, the strategies dont seem to work for me in RC and my accuracy is somewhat stagnant and not improving for RC.

What should I do?????

I read somewhere that first ten questions in verbal aren't RC. Could someone please let me know if that's fact or a myth.

Can't imagine my verbal on G-day starting with RC and me screwing up first 4 questions!!! God, that would be like my nightmare coming true !

Is it always true that first ten ques aren't RC???

puys, can anyone plz tell me whether we can SAFELY use BRITISH ENGLISH in our AWAs, or is it preferable to use US ENGLISH as in, is it advisable to write COLOR instead of COLOUR etc..??? does using british english affect our marks in any way since the essays will be first judged by a computer BOT and then by a human reader or would the BOT be able to identify it as british english and proceed accordingly??

Re: GMAT Query Centre - 06-08-2007, 10:55 AM

Hi,

I took Princeton Review Practice Test 2 yesterday and got only 590 (Q41, V30)
I did some analysis and saw that I had made only 1 mistake in Quants and 4 in Verbal in the first 10 questions.
Total questions right in Quants: 30/37 and in Verbal 27/41.

Is this an accurate assessment? Of what I had read in some thread in PG is that one gets a scaled score of 49 in Quants if he commits 7-8 mistakes..

I have one more month to go before I take GMAT..I am planning to take the GMATPrep in the last two weeks..

Guys...Plz help me out...I am worried with such a low score...

Hi Ajay

There are two aspects to the grammer to be used in AWA.
a) Since we all are brought up on British Grammer, we are better at it. And what you are better at, you logically score better at.
b) The grades on AWA are given by, to the best of my knowledge, by Americans or people who are well versed with the US styles. So for them it is easier to grade somebody who writes in their comfort language. And what you are more comfortable at, you logically give better grades to.
However they cannot discount british english simple on the diff in spellings and slightly different grammer. So I would suggest you stick to British styles if you are comfy at it.

Cheers

Re: GMAT Query Centre - 06-08-2007, 02:49 PM

Hello All,

I am not very new to this forum. Just that my old id was giving some problem, i created a new one.

I have a specific query related to 1-yr MBA programs.

I have done M.Sc in computer science and been with an IT firm for past 3 yrs. I will have work ex of 4 years by the time i join any B-School.
I work in the capacity of a module leader right now.

I wish to my MBA in Finance(more specifically in banking/investment) banking from a one-year MBA program. I have an average academic record and more than average professional work ex and extra curriculars.

Do you suggest to go for a 1-yr MBA program for a person with profile such as mine?
Also, what are my chances that the B-School(1 yr program) will buy my application with 4 years of work ex in IT firm and willing to go for Finance.

The only things i can provide in my support are that i specifically chose to work on banking product because i was interested in banking and i am doing a 6-mnth correspondence course in Finance from ICFAI.

Ppl, plz suggest. Am in an ever-consuming dilemma.

Thanks and Regards,
Maunang

Re: GMAT Query Centre - 06-08-2007, 09:20 PM

I took GMAT at Hyderabad centre this march , but not satisfied with my score and want to sit again. My query is , at Hyderabad centre the work sheets they gave me for my rough work had excel tables like divided squares all over the sheets leaving free space only at borders , that was inconvenient for me. Is like this only given at every centre, or should I opt for another centre. Please suggest me.
