you have options like PschoD's thread, "760..my GMAT experience" by Baba Yaga. ..730...the story so far by me is also an effort in the same direction.

basically i would say it's a 2hr daily preparation of something around 3 months. coz you need to get quant on track. there's always some apprehension while starting like 'how should i start'..but i would say 'start'. KAPLAN 2006 Premier edition would be a good starting material.for other materials, you've few good threads.

you've a nice work-ex so just 'go for it'.

Hey,
I would suggest waiting for another year (i.e. Fall 2007) if you are taking GMAT in Feb. Well, if you cant wait, then you would loose a shot at many top schools as their deadline for international students is around Jan/Feb. If you are looking at tier II schools, then you are good to go this fall.

There are lots of threads here which will help you in GMAT prep. If you are thinking of applying in Fall2007, then yo can as well postpone your GMAT until April/May, and do some school research before that. Richard Montauk's "How to get into Top MBA programs" is a start.

Get in touch with fellow mumbaikars for help. If you have specific questions, email me.

Good luck!

Snax is right in saying that you'll miss the deadlines for 'good' B-Schools. But one viewpoint is that if you can give good solid 3 months to your GMAT prep. then there's no harm in taking it in Feb. 2006. it's the question of devoting 3 months to your prep. if you feel that you can invest 3 months sometime next year also, then do some research work now & take your GMAT anytime before sept. 2006 but if you feel that next 3 months is the best time you can give for prep. then feb. 2006 is the time.

Hello shekhar and snax
Thanks for u valueable advise but I affirm that i want to give my gmat in feb 2006 only.Shekhar as u have advised me I have started my gmat preparation by giving around 4 hrs a day .u told me to start with Kaplan 2006 premier edition which I purchased and started to study from it. what other books should I purchase after I complete Kaplan ?.Could u write them in order of importance and what books are a must for gmaters wanting to achieve 700+.could u write them in order of importance and in order of studying so that after I complete one book I could shift to other one and this way I would systematically prepare for my gmat.
For eg;
1)Kaplan 2006 premier edition (already purchased)
2) (whats next)
3) and so on
also could u tell me where in Mumbai could I get cheaper bargains for such books?
Which coaching classes are good for gmat preparation in mumbai ?
And do u know of any good counsellors in Mumbai which could guide me in my admission procedures?
Is it true that usa accepts student for mba programmes with 15 years of education?
If not then do they accept diplomas in finance equivalent to there 16th year of education? Now I have made a big mistake I am have not applied fro my com this year which means I have to apply for mcom in oct 2206,which will future push my admission to fall 2007?
Which I do not want to, I want to apply for fall 2006 only at any cost?
Guys it possible that they will accept me if I get a good gmat score?
Are there any other degrees which they will consider equilavent to 16th year of admission? If yes? plz let me know?
I want to go to usa ony for my mba (for nay of top 30 programmes) and that also in fall 2006? Is there anyway I could make it in fall 2006?
Plz guide me?
Waiting for reply and thanks all of u .

Hi IaMBA

to be very honest, i do not have much to answer regarding the latter part of your post.
1. i'm in Pune, so no idea about Mumbai. You can check out the Mumbai thread, i'm sure it'll have all the information.
2. all the queries regarding counsellers, coaching centers, 12 + 3 or 4. uumm..sorry, i don't have any idea about it. I think you can approach some counsellers at some good coaching center. again refer to Mumbai thread.

* check out the post of vipin_singh on this link http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/b-scho...tml#post315785

as for the preparation,

->
to avoid missing anything, do visit 760...my GMAT experience post by BABA YAGA. Our good old buddy PsychoD, you can shoot your queries to him too. his thread-countdown to MBA is also highly recommended.

->
get yourself new books yaar, i feel they've a special charm. yeah, it's an expense of some Rs. 2500/-

->
4 hrs. a day is more than sufficient at this stage. must be on your way 2 finish KAPLAN 2006 Premier in some 20 days flat..?? i think you can afford to go slow & be really comprehensive in analysing the mistakes you're making in your 'strength' areas( & obviously 'all' other areas too). plus even looking at the correct ones too. in all, this holds true throughout the preparation.

->
you can give PowerPrep( if u've registered for GMAT) now also or point 3.
1. KAPLAN 2006 Premier : even in this book, do the questions in sets of 15 somethings & note ur timings. work up on speed if you feel ur slow acc. to GMAT standards...sectional-tests area good way to improve speed & temperament.
i wud say, give a KAPLAN full-length test after finishing 3/4th or 4/4 of this. it'll throw up your strength & weak areas, areas of complacency, timing fundas etc.

2.
(a) KAPLAN Maths Workout, KAPLAN Verbal Workout, PRINCETON Verbal : you can start any of these 1st acc. to your self-assessment. u can choose between KAPLAN & PRINCETON Verbal. i did KAPLAN's..but have heard good reviews about PRINCETON too.

(b) get urself PRINCETON CD for more sectional tests. if u feel the need to have more quant material for practice then get IMS Max GMAT 2nd hand( this is seriously optional coz i've heard that questions are depressingly tough).

>>>there is some set of 1000 SCs & CRs. i cudn't get them. PsychoD had them.so you can ask him.

3. PowerPrep. if at this stage, then aim for 690+ . get urself Official Guide (OG), 11th edition. this is one gem of a book. a real essential.exhaustive set of questions. nice explanations. remember the tips on answer checking & answer explanation(both correct & incorrect).

=> in between all this, you've too see how many sectional tests & full-length tests you've & then space them appropriately.

i wud say save one PowerPrep for last 10 days...it'll surely be a good morale-booster

4. KAPLAN GMAT800: for tough questions. it sort of gives you confidence that you're dealing with the tough questions.

For most B-schools in the US you do need at least 4 years of education after 12th...you might have to consider doing another course or something...
