Hi IaMBA
to be very honest, i do not have much to answer regarding the latter part of your post.
1. i'm in Pune, so no idea about Mumbai. You can check out the Mumbai thread, i'm sure it'll have all the information.
2. all the queries regarding counsellers, coaching centers, 12 + 3 or 4. uumm..sorry, i don't have any idea about it. I think you can approach some counsellers at some good coaching center. again refer to Mumbai thread.

as for the preparation,

to avoid missing anything, do visit 760...my GMAT experience post by BABA YAGA. Our good old buddy PsychoD, you can shoot your queries to him too. his thread-countdown to MBA is also highly recommended.

get yourself new books yaar, i feel they've a special charm. yeah, it's an expense of some Rs. 2500/-
->
4 hrs. a day is more than sufficient at this stage. must be on your way 2 finish KAPLAN 2006 Premier in some 20 days flat..?? i think you can afford to go slow & be really comprehensive in analysing the mistakes you're making in your 'strength' areas( & obviously 'all' other areas too). plus even looking at the correct ones too. in all, this holds true throughout the preparation.
->
you can give PowerPrep( if u've registered for GMAT) now also or point 3.
1. KAPLAN 2006 Premier : even in this book, do the questions in sets of 15 somethings & note ur timings. work up on speed if you feel ur slow acc. to GMAT standards...sectional-tests area good way to improve speed & temperament.
i wud say, give a KAPLAN full-length test after finishing 3/4th or 4/4

of this. it'll throw up your strength & weak areas, areas of complacency, timing fundas etc.
2.
(a) KAPLAN Maths Workout, KAPLAN Verbal Workout, PRINCETON Verbal : you can start any of these 1st acc. to your self-assessment. u can choose between KAPLAN & PRINCETON Verbal. i did KAPLAN's..but have heard good reviews about PRINCETON too.
(b) get urself PRINCETON CD for more sectional tests. if u feel the need to have more quant material for practice then get IMS Max GMAT 2nd hand( this is seriously optional coz i've heard that questions are depressingly tough).
>>>
there is some set of 1000 SCs & CRs. i cudn't get them. PsychoD had them.so you can ask him.
3. PowerPrep. if at this stage, then aim for 690+ . get urself Official Guide (OG), 11th edition. this is one gem of a book. a real essential.exhaustive set of questions. nice explanations. remember the tips on answer checking & answer explanation(both correct & incorrect).
=>
in between all this, you've too see how many sectional tests & full-length tests you've & then space them appropriately.
i wud say save one PowerPrep for last 10 days...it'll surely be a good morale-booster
4. KAPLAN GMAT800: for tough questions. it sort of gives you confidence that you're dealing with the tough questions.
