Hi Insane......

Congratulations........
Well is ur score good or bad depends on the kinda schools u r applying to......Cant really comment but I think thats fair enough....
And regarding ur work ex... I guess u need to gain some more ex to balance it out if u r gonna apply with the same score.

Thanks for the input on the verbal part.

Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey there,

first let me congratulate you on your gmat score of 680..ma two cents on how good the score is, your score is still below the 700 mark..but technically it is yet above or equal to the average score of most of the unvi'(leave aside the top5 or top10)..n beta..1 yr work ex is nothing, you need to get some more years there, as average work ex for most unvi' is around 4-5 yrs.

will be waiting for your detailed prep' post.

till then enjoy n work hard.

ps: yeah, i know there have been lots of ppl giving me advice of going through ren-n-martin or some basic grammar book..ie. if you want to score good. aslo off late i have learnt that its better to score evenly on both verbal n quant than converse n verbal score has more weightage tahn quant.

hey there!

i`ve been following this thread for quite a while now, but havnt really attended any meetings coz i didn`t have anything good to contribute to the prep-material pool. i would like to attend though! i now have kaplan 800 hard copy and some xerox material containing lots of AWA sample essays. let me know if u`re meeting again sometime and if u`re interested in sharing this stuff. thanks.

Approvals and celebrations will rarely surround your inner decisions and choices to follow Personal Truth. You will be challenged and taunted: “Who do you think you are, anyways?” And, indeed, through your choices and decisions, that is precisely the question you are answering–to yourself.

well..we already have kaplan 800 (hard copy)..it would be great if you can consider buying something else (kaplan 2006/2005 premier book or kaplan quant or verbal workbooks) for the material pool..but none the less you always most welcome to join in the dicussion (meets).

the date and venue for the next meet is still to be finalised..so keep following this thread for the details.

you know what I think... the wren and martins and the grammar study material is not helpful at all (SC)... basically because the GMAT grammar is a little weird, besides... most of the grammar is more of problem solving than about grammar correction. I guess the mantra is to practice practice and practise and get accustomed to problem solving grammar questions cause if you start getting into subjects, predicates, voices, nouns, etc, etc, etc you will just be trying toooo hard on each question...

practice a lot and trust me you will get intuitive about the answers... and those questions which do not show any "light"... you will always have your knowledge to bank on...

atleast thats what I have realised...
Donno what you guys think...

drunk_jerk... that text file you have attached is something I have been dyeing searching since the time I started preparing... super attachment... thanks a ton

Cheers!!!

yeah funky i know thats true in a way..its jst gmat grammar as pr describes it..umm ya i know the key is practise n lots of practise..but you need to know the basics as well,(atleast i do ) though one cant be solely dependent on intutions only.

i don't agree with you here...i'm not suggesting to go through the entire wren & martin....but there a few chapters which are really helpful like subject-verb agreement..pronouns..lists of idiomatic phrases and there is a part on correct usage.. obviously you dont expect to go thru the types of adverbs and the figures of speech etc..etc..
and it helped me coz when i started with the OG verbal w/o going thru any rules or anything on grammar with the mantra of practising and getting it right i fell flat on my back...i used to solve 10 q's at a time and the no of errors were a little too many..but after these few concepts from w & m and kaplan 800's ( 10 most commonly tested errors) I found a considerable change in my performance...

If your fundas are right it helps you to spot the errors and with practise(esp from the OG) you tend to look at the places where you are most likely to find an error and then eliminating the choices....a technique similar to prephasing the correct answer.... this worked for me fine...i think intution helps only in cases when you have more than 1 correct option and you have to choose the one with the best expression but there will be only 1 or 2 such questions.
